Offline | Retro fit MFSW and the Dension Ice Link Hi Guys Its been a while. The black and white Cooper has gone and has been replaced with a lovely Indi blue 04 registered Cooper. I have craved a MFSW since taking delivery of my first MINI in march 02. When I ordered it in the December of 01 the MFSW was not available. The new Cooper was bought by me as an ex demo. Lovely spec but no MFSW. I have since fitted a Dension Ice Link to the bavk of the Boost Stereo using the quad lock which means that I can control the Ipod via the stereo. I have decided to bite the bullet and pay for the MFSW to be retro fitted. The price is a bit of a choker but made slightly better by the fact that I have the 3 spoke sports wheel already. I have two questions for you :- !) Is the MFSW compatible with the Dension. My local stealer doesnt know for sure. 2) Can you recommend an independent in Kent who could fit the MFSW. Cheers guys, I really apprecaite your help Last edited by donkeyontheedge : May 23rd, 2006 at 06:18 PM. |

Offline | HI Ruugerman The cost of the MFSW largely depends on the type of steering wheel you currently have. If you have the 3 spoke sports wheel then your in luck. All you need is the "retro fit kit" which uses the existing wheel and simply replaces the two spoke finishers at the 3 and 9 o clock position. The cost of the kit including VAT is £170. The cost of fitting the retro kit (including the kit itself) is £720 inc VAT at a MINI stealer. John Cooper Works will do it for considerably less and still offer a warranty. They quoted £460 all in including parts. BMW Style in Romford will also do the job at £55 per hour. However I have my doubts about them. They tell me that a clutch slave cylinder is required, this is not the case. They also wont commit to a time for the job. I would also add that they have never done the job before, whereas JCW have. I have managed to blag a full set of instructions for fitting the retro kit. I would say that save for dicing with death in removing the air bag, it is within the realms of a COMPETENT DIY'er to fit. However, BMW will still need to code it. I have weighed up the options and think that I will go for it, how about you Ruggerman ?? One further word off warning. DONT repeat DON'T be tempted to buy a MFSW from ebay. Firstly you will end up having to buy a shed load of parts from BMW anyway. Secondly, BMW wont guarantee a wheel not supplied by them. |

Offline | What parts are actually needed for retrofitting the MFSW? I have a 2 spoke MFSW and want to fit the 3 spoke, obviously I will need the wheel and new airbag but what else? |

Offline | Sorry, I miss red your question. Probably just the two spokes with the round switches as you will have all the hardware including the slip ring etc. I would check with your dealer. |

Offline | I don't have the three spoke wheel; just the two spoke. Don't really like the look of the three spoke either so assume that it will cost a lot more to get it fitted. Any idea how much? Got My MINI! 2006 MINI Cooper |

Offline | Sorry, I have no idea. I can only suggest that you speak to your local stealer. I understand that Mini mania are developing a cruise control system with buttons located on the "A" post. It might bw worth having a chat with Adam at MM. I have bitten the bullet and booked mine into JCW to have the MFSW fitted. |

Offline | This thread kind of backs up what I've been saying since I first looked at the new MINI, which is: Why does it not come with cruise control as standard equipment? Very few cars in the USA in MINI's price range don't have cruise as standard equipment. Even if you never use it, it doesn't get in the way, and it increases the ease of resale and resale book value. To not be able to keep a steady speed to help both economy and help prevent getting a ticket, and to rest your leg occasionally, is a bummer. From some of the post I've read , on varoius websites, I think some people might have bought their MINI assuming it had cruise control. I could take or leave the other steering wheel controls, I do use the CD track change control occasionally. Wonder if the MFSW will be standard on the '07. Robert Stancliff Sr. |

Offline | I can see the point of cruise in the USA Here in the UK we have another word for cruise control, its called neutral gear. We have this engaged an awful lot of the time, mainly in the 30 mile traffic jams we suffer. I am having cruise fitted for trip abroad. Happiness is a warm MINI |
