| F43i0 | Best GPS device for Mini (Navman, Garmin or Tom Tom) Hi With the GP coming soon , i'll no longer have my built in Sat-Nav so i'd like to get some sort of sat- nav system, once you get used to having one its hard to drive cars without one I've been looking at
I'd even consider a system based on my mobile phone. Which one would you recommend, whats important to me is that it'll work in Ireland (Navteq are the best maps for ireland) & it'll will get me to Italy ![]() Thanks Fabio Last edited by Fabio : Jun 14th, 2006 at 12:30 AM. |

Offline | I've only got personal experience of the OEM, Navman 510 and TomTom Go 5 (I think) software on a Pocket PC. Personally, the OEM was pants. The Navman 510 gives you good routes and has good routing options (more flexible when giving "weight" to major/minor roads, quickest/shortest etc), but is slow and clunky. The tomtom is faster to work out routes etc and has better options/easier to use (especially the postcode search, worth it's weight in the UK). Overall for me I'd go for some sort of TomTom. |

Offline | This may be completely useless since I'm in the states, but we have a Garmin 330C and it is fantastic. My wife, God bless her, is geographically challenged and scorned me repeatedly for purchasing the unit when we moved to Virginia. Two days after she got here she was singing the Garmin's praises as "the best electronic gadget you've ever purchased!". Even though I haven't had the opportunity to try the others, if the mapping of Europe is as complete as it is for the U.S. Garmin gets my recommendation. Just my .02. |

Offline | Im also in this predicatment as I'll be taking the motor through the Pyrenees in August, I've been edging towards the Tom Tom 710 but this particular model is not available at the moment or a Tom Tom 910 in Dover minus the tax However I was sent a Garmin brochure today by my local Mini dealership as a couple of the range have been reduced, the C310 down from £299 to £199 and C320 from £349 to £299, so they are very tempting I would like to hear other fellow GPS user's comments on this ..... |

| cook pass babtridge | have a look at the outgoing range of tomtoms - 300/700/900. they're practically giving them away at the moment & the new ones don't have that many new features, unless you want to use your sat nav as an mp3 player these will also be getting the latest firmware update anytime soon so most of the new features will be available on them too. firmware updates are free & simply downloaded from the tomtom website to the unit |

Offline | Once again Hat is spot on! I was looking at purchasing one of the TomTom 510, 710, 910 series, but other than the slightly bigger screen and the ability to play MP3s there isn't a great deal of difference. I managed to get a TomTom Go 700 for under £300, but I think you'll have to be quick as they are really selling quickly. It works fantastically well and was over £200 cheaper than the retail price on the Go 910. I didn't know about the firmware updates, so I'll be looking out for those! ![]() Just need to think of where to install it now rather than on the windscreen! |
