Offline | ICE Advice Hi there, I'm in serious need of upgrading the Mini's stock setup and after deliberating for a while about doing it, now is the time. Currently I'm running a Wave with 6cd changer and MFSW controls which leaves a lot to be desired. I require something that will integrate with my ipod and be relatively bass heavy nothing too OTT. From my previous car setup I have a 12" Pioneer Sub and a 4 channel Kenwood KAC-PS500F Amp which according to the link to Kenwoods website... outputs in 4 channel mode 150W x 4, 3 chanel 150W x 2 + 600W x 1, and in 2 channel mode 600W x 2. Due to the lack of space to accomodate the sub in the Mini I want to do without it but still retain bass. From the previous threads I'm swaying towards the Alpine 9580Ri headunit however only having 1 pre-out leaves me thinking twice i.e not being able to power both front and rear speakers. I'm looking at replacing front components and rears currently I've been looking at the INFINITY Kappa .7 series which look good value for money. Any advice on how I should set up the following and any recommendations are welcome trying to keep the budget as low as possible but could be swayed! Thanks in advance! |

![]() The Muffin Man | when doing so, please remember that if you are using that amp, the power ratings you have specified (150W x 4 etc) are max power outputs. Any speakers/subs connected to your amp for example in four channel mode will be getting about 50W each or something around that; ie the RMS Wattage |

Offline | So in light of that what would you recommend? Running it as 2 channel and powering front components or the rears? Or just leave the amp out altogether? I'm assuming there's no point in 4 channel mode as the head unit should output 4 x 50W. |

Offline | If you get the infinity .7 comps for the front and the 693.7 6x9s for the back, instal your amp and run the 6x9s with the rear channels set for sub you will get pretty good bass, nowhere near as good as your proper sub but you will not lose your trunk space. Make sure you put plenty of Dynamat around all the speakers this will improve their sound. |
