Offline | Help needed please ... I have just got my '53' Cooper S and need a little information regarding some items... Does the Satnav receive the TMC alerts in the UK or is this just for other countries? Where can i get updates for the satnav software? once i have found out the software version! I only have the H/K Cassette ad a boot changer, will it play MP3 discs? if so what folder layout do i need to put on the disc for it to be played? Does anybody have an after market headunit with H/K and Satnav , what problems did u get and how good is it? will it work with the MFSW? I'm not too bothered about loosing the satnav voice as i find it very annoying! The reasons i ask is, i got rid of all my analogue stuff ages ago, and having a cassette deck is a pain! I would like to change the Headunit to a CD (probably Alpine), but i want to keep the H/K cos i think it sounds very good! Thanks ![]() 2002 COOPER / 2003 ONE D / 2003 COOPER S |

| Lovin' every MINI of it! | First, having H/K is going to limit your options a bit. Once H/K is in, you have to basically rip it out if you want to upgrade. That said, there is some good news for you. http://www.newministuff.com (Mikey) has an adapter that will let you use certain HU's with the H/K (called the HK enabler). TMC does work in the UK, but I believe that you have to have Classic radio tuned in to get it. If you change your HU, you will loose TMC on your NAV as most HU's don't have it incorperated without an actual NAV built in. I do not think that the boot unit will play MP3's Mikey could confirm this. Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | Yeah as stated, TMC is only available on Classic FM, so if you listen to an ipod or CD it will pick it up automatically otherwise you have to listen to Classic FM on the radio. I don't think it was available on a 53 car, I thought it was only a 2005 change? |

| my ponies have escaped!!! | TMC - u mean the traffic updates that cut in whilst listening to the radio?? I thought traffic news was broadcast on most radio stations? There is also a menu within the OEM Nav that relates to traffic - is that a different issue? Every time ive looked at it its greyed out ???? Does this need different software to enable it??? m o n k e y : n u t s |

Offline | No TMC is related to the OEM Nav. It receives TMC signals from Classic FM in the UK and then displays road works on the Nav, if your route is taking you towards them it will give you another alternative route. If you have if switched on and tuned into Classic, TMC appears in Green in the bottom of the sat nav display. Hence if you are listening to an ipod or CD it will automatically pick up the TMC from Classic FM and still appear green. It's not the traffic updates that cuts in over the top of whatever your listening to. I can't remember how you switch it on, I thought you just went in to the menu and selected it? ![]() Must add sounds like a great idea in theory but in practise it doesn't seem to know about many of the road works. I think if you change the scale for the whole of the UK it knows about 5 sets in the south east where I am? |

Offline | I found my Software version for my satnav which is SW 4-1/12, could anybody tell me if that is old or new and where i could get an updated version if necessary? I had a look in the Nav menu and i could not find a TMC option, so i guess it don't have it not that it going to work now anyway cos i also just bought an Alpine CDE9850Ri With the full speed Ipod interface and a HK enabler, decided that i'm not too bothered about the Satnav voice so decided that the music was more important!!! Will all be fitted tomorrow! now i just have to decided where the best place is to put the ipod connection cable...!! ![]() 2002 COOPER / 2003 ONE D / 2003 COOPER S |

Offline | That's old. I have 4-1/70. Have a look here for details on updating. It'll give you some nice new features, especially perspective mode, which, IMHO, makes the interface 100 times better. With regards to TMC, your system may support it, but you need a DVD that supports it (IIRC), and I think this was only available from last year, or maybe even not that long ago. |

| Lovin' every MINI of it! | Yes, the 4 means that you have an MK4 which is the DVD version (latest that is out). If you are interested in updating your NAV, you could talk to your dealer and they should be able to help. There are other sites that might actually have the software or you could take a look at this guys blog http://mini.mdsbrain.com/?p=183 Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | That's fine. The point is that if you are listening to the radio, it must be tuned to Classic FM. If you're not, it doesn't matter as the nav will find it automatically. Is it traffic information that's greyed out? I believe your nav DVD must support TMC, and this is a fairly recent thing. I've just taken some for you. ![]() When TMC is enabled but is not receiving the data (i.e. because you are not tuned to Classic FM or listen to another source), "TMC" is written in red: When you are correctly tuned in or listening to another source, it goes green: If you enter the traffic information menu, then go into the message list, you can see the various bits of traffic information: You can then select any of these to receive further information: Incidentally, if you have a route programmed in and TMC enabled, the system will alert you if one of these bits of traffic information occurs on your journey, and it gives you the opportunity for it to redirect you. Also, for those that haven't seen the perspective view, this is what I have it set to. ![]() |
