ICE Link Plus - help - cannot access the Menu (Disc 6)

I have installed the ICE Link Plus in my MCS two weeks ago. Works brilliantly except that I cannot access the Dension menu (Disc 6 selection). I have setup 5 playlists, random play works, MFSW controls work, all except the menu. Got the menu once at initial installation (after a struggle) and I have set up the volume, charging options etc. I have disconnected the car battery (short and long periods), disconnected the plug from the wafer, tried my other Ipod - no luck. I installed an ICE Link in my Renault Scenic 1 last weekend, everything works with both my Ipods. Does anyone know how I can get the menu back? Thanks

Do you have text working on the stereo?

Did either of you tell the Icelink to send control to the Ipod itself? If so, then the menu appears on the HU and not on the Ipod until you switch it back.

Meaning that you can control the Ipod with steering wheel controls?

How would I go about changing the 'control' option? I've got an IceLink Plus kit which won't show the menu either - here's hoping I can change an option to get it to work

I have the earlier Boost H/U that does not support text. When I could still access the Dension Menu, control was set to the H/U and not the Ipod to allow control from the H'U and steering wheel. I can change from CD 1-5 for the playlists 1-5 and change tracks within CD 1-5. If I press 6 it just displays 6 and the track number it was playing on CD1-5 at the time. After a while it just goes back to the CD number it is playing. It does not go into the menu. I think I tried at some stage when I could still access the menu to see if the H/U would support text and nothing happened. I then switched off and unplugged and since then disc 6 button has not been doing anything. The screen display on the Ipod is the Dension display as I am not controlling via the Ipod. It comes up with the Warning not to browse, random works, charging works etc., only the menu is not displaying

Do you guys happen to know what version of Firmware you were running? This might be an issue.

I will report on the firmware issue tomorrow, I assume it will be the latest, bought the kit 2 weeks ago. Strange that it did work and all other functions are perfect. Is there a way to reload the software (to reload / repair) the firmware. I do not know how to put that. It was the next thing I wanted to try. I am not sure if it may have been corrupted when I tried to setup the text display on the H/U. I have contacted the local agent, they have no idea. Apart from the menu problem I am extemely satisfied with the Ice Link Plus. I installed a Ice Link FM on the Scenic because I was told that the Plus does not work on Scenic 1's - I was not happy with it - low volume, signal break trhough etc. Then tried a Plus for a Scenic 2 and it works brilliantly on the Scenic 1 - even the menu works and even simpler to install than on the Mini.

Several things I do want to point out. First, the menu on the unit is SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW. You have to take your time and it may be that you are jsut getting frustrated (like I did at first) and clicking too fast. 2.B2 is the lastest for the MINI and if you are not running it, you should. Lastly, if you select to control the songs via Ipod, you will loose the menu from the Ipod and it will only appear on the HU. At this point you have to re-select the radio as the control unit and it will return the menu to the Ipod.

I hope that some of this helps a little.

If you have tries selecting text & your stereo doesn't do it then this may well be your problem. The icelink is in text mode so all the menus are now being sent to the stereo which you can't see as your stereo doesn't do text. You need to run the no text firmware file to reset it.
Is this the old style icelink plus (circuit board in heat shrink)
Or new icelink plus, circuit board in plastic case

Thanks Mikey, I think you are absolutely correct - I lost the menu off the Ipod screen after I tried to see if text display will work on my stereo. I have read the booklet again and there is a statement under BMW special functions page 10 that now makes sense 'Use the BMW_Text_disable.mp3 config file to disable text display. This can be helpful if you made a wrong selection and nothing is displayed.' I have version 2-2b of the firmware and the circuit board is in heat shrink. Now 2 questions remain:

1 Where do I get the config file?
2 How do I run the file to reset the firmware?
Flakemeister, thanks for your input, I know the menu is slow but it is not the problem in this case, it must be text being sent to the stereo that cannot display it.
