DIY MINI iPod Kit Q

i have a mini ipod kit that was fitted by MINI. the thing is when my ipod is connected and the engine is not on......does that mean if the iPod is connected it still charges?

It's just a thought as i sometimes charge it from the mains. also, if the iPod is FULLY charged it would still use up the car battery, when you're not using it??
