Offline | Hi, I just installed a Kenwood 627 dvd player, its all working fine however I am a bit worried I haven't earthed it properly. There was a wire with Earth written on it and a metal clip at the end which I didnt plug into anything. I also used Mikey's HK enabler, does this have a built in earth on it so i dont need to use the other wire from the head unit. If the head unit is working is there even any need to Earth it?? Thanks for any help, Crammy |

Offline | If the wire is black and has a clip that is "C" shaped, it is a chassis ground wire and should be grounded to the chassis of the vehicle. On the MINI, the ground wires are brown.... you can probably locate a bundle of brown wires secured to the chassis and use that location. Good luck Donald |

Offline | There would be a negative in the harness and Mikeys wiring adaptor would have routed that correctly for you. An "earth" clip might be to shield the chassis of the new HU and reduce interference - if the wires long enough to reach all the way to a metal part of the car that you can bolt it to, and you want to do it, then OK. But connecting it to other wires won't do much good - not an effective interference shield. If you can't hear any noise from other electrics turning on/off on the car, I'd ignore it. |
