Has anyone ever tried taking the cap off to change the bulb??

Yes it is easy, well for someone with your skill. Just use a craft knife (or something else very thin), the endcap is just held on by friction, so just need to pop it off while not bruising the lens or the stork plastic housing.

BTW it is a SM LED, not a bulb

and i think there is a photo around somewhere of it and the litlle PCB it is on.
