| 100 bhp over stock, | cheap upgrade? thinking about a small upgrade to my sound system, last year halfords did a £199.00 special on an alpine head unit and ipod link/controller which was a big improvement i listen to mostly radio and mp3 so top end kit would be wasted on me anyway budget today £100.00 only, not sure where to start apart from boot space is too valuable to waste on subs or amps, have read that 6 x 9 are getting a bit of a bad vibe, but they seem cheap, doubt that i will spend any more in the future, the rest will go under the hood etc should i blow my budget on door speakers, or get a pro to fit somthing cheap for me, or spread it around on 6 x 9 as well, and leave the tweeters as stock? any ideas which give best sound on a limited budget cheers carefree |

![]() Obsessive Car Cleaner OCC | I never had any problems keeping my OEM 6x9's in the car as i thought they sounded fine so i put a sub in the boot! but as you want the space you cant be doing that! i think your best bet is to do a head unit upgrade, but £100 wont get you much! i got my head unit from this place Car Audio, car radio, car security, car navigation, in-car entertainment, GPS satnav, stereo, speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers @ In-Car Express the head unit was advertised in halfrauds for £399.99 in the sale was £299.99 i googled it and found that website, got it deliverd for £184.99! still i think your 1st upgrade should be the head unit as the new 6x9's will need a decent player for them to work as they should! hope this helps! |

| 100 bhp over stock, | any advice welcome spoke to 3 shops got 3 opinions so i am none the wiser on cheap upgrade...no amp likely, due to space cost/issue. power via 4 x 45w alpine 9847 head unit, playing ipod/radio for most of my music 70/80`s rock so my current short list in order of cost alpine sps 171a component kit pioneer ts A132c +also suggested i add later ts A6911 "6 x 9" slightly dearer but i think the most likely way at the moment pioneer ts e176c component kit [no 6 x 9] MB quart 216 dsf [over budget so proberly not on cost] i am in deep water here and need some help, i have no idea if its worth going the extra mile for MB quart without an amp, will i notice the difference, if so will it be twice as good as the cheapest option? my last install was 20yrs ago Mk3 escort, used pioneer then, so some sort of brand loyalty might be going on to push me in that direction, carefree |
