Offline | Are my fogs on or not? Just over a week into R53MCS ownership and loving it. Question: Is there any idication that the fog lights have been turned on whilst driving during daylight. Something none of us should do. Having been fined for having front fog lights on during heavy rain. No joke!! I consirns me that i cant seem to tell if ive switched them on my mistake or not. Please advise. Last edited by 3rdpillar : Apr 10th, 2007 at 01:26 PM. Reason: typo |

Offline | .....fine for having your fogs on!? Ok ok, i didnt know this.....i always drive with my fogs on! i think it adds a lil summin summin to mini's already superb looks. more info would be useful! but then again even if im not supposed to then i still will! I can see why rear fogs make a difference to everyday driving. But then again, even if theres abit of spray on the roads or motorway i will have as many lights on as i can find just to make me as visible as possible! |

| I miss my MINI | People here in my area of Germany (mostly Americans) drive with their fogs on. It is against the law and to be honest I wish they wouldn't as the glare of them coming towards me makes it hard to see. It may look good, but if the person that is traveling 55 MPH in front of you can't see, you might just get slammed into because of it. Global Moderator ![]() |

| It's only a one... Honest | Hmmm driving with fogs on really is a pain for other drivers... Sometimes they are useful.. i.e when its foggy or when its really bucketing down and you are driving next to a vehicle (on the motorway) which is throwing up a lot of spray but for the most part they should stay off. They certainly don't add a little something... . they just make you look like a pillock who forgot to turn his/her fogs off. Annoying for others... pointless for the driver. |

Offline | I was told by plod that the fine for having rear fogs on when deemed uncessary was upto £2000. so i was lucky that i was getting a small fine for having front fogs on when HE decided that they were unecessary. I got a non endorable £60 fine and had to take docs to local plod station. Cambridgeshire Constabulary - Frequently asked questions |

Offline | try this The Highway Code its a £30 fine or summons to court for driving with your fogs on in anything less than fog! heavy rain or spray on the motorway does not count! ![]() 2002 COOPER / 2003 ONE D / 2003 COOPER S |

Offline | Fog lights when it's not foggy is quite annoying when you are the oncoming driver. it is against the highway code and is a fineable offence. See rules 201 and 211 The Highway Code |

Offline | As a follow up to this how do you tell your lights are on with the automatic lights option? I remember from the manual that they are activiated via a light meter but should not be relied upon in fog during the day to come on. I was driving through fog the other day and had to switch to manual lights as I just did not know if the lights where active and this was only after I switched on the fogs and thought about it! It's amazing how quickly you can get into the habit of not thinking about switching the lights on when you have the auto option. PS I have sat nav so no central speedo |

Offline | I also have the auto lights, the only way to tell if they are on is from seeing that the instruments and dash are lit up and from reflections on other cars etc. It's a shame that there's no audible warning when the lights activate. As stated above though it's impossible to leave the fog lights on as they reset when the car/lights are switched off. You have to physically switch them on everytime you want to use them. |

| I miss my MINI | What works for you may not work for others. We all have different tolerances towards light. I have better night vision than a lot of people and the extra light caused by the fogs on cars and trucks only makes it harder to see. It is not like I stare at them when I am driving, I am not that daft. ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |
