Offline | In car PC installation Hi all. After replacing my classic mini, I am now trying to fit a PC into my new mini and have a few questions. What is the best way to get 12V always on, AND switched 12V from the ignition in the boot? I can't see anything obvious in the two hatches bar the interior lighting wires. Is there a way to hide the cables running from back to front? I did have them runnng under the carpet in the drain channels in the old one, but they are well attached in the new one. Does anyone have any recomendation for a gooseneck (or similar) mounting for an 8" LCD touch screen? This is a first gen Mini One (03 reg) but has soem of the 04 interior styling... Thanks. |

Offline | Here would probably be a good place to start if you're thinking of an incar pc. mp3car.com | your source for mobile computing solutions you might find someone who's already done it in a mini. I have thought about it myself, but I'd probably base it on a laptop in a larger car! I already have a laptop with incar power adaptor that will let you surf the web/email etc with gprs via a mobile phone connected with USB whilst driving. You can get unlimited laptop access using a mobile phone as a modem on T-mobile for not too much now. Think it's called web and walk plus. The laptop connects to my bluetooth pioneer HU via the aux in. None of the laptop stuff is integrated yet - biggest problem is where to install a stealth screen on a mini! I want to keep my Pioneer Bluetooth stereo installed and add a pop-out touch screen - would be easier with a car with a double din headunit! ![]() |

Offline | Yeah, I'm a member there, but thought people here would know a few more of the mini specifics. He mentioned storage under the seats, but mine doesn't have any. It does however seem to have odd plastic inserts tucked under the carpet.. Does anyone know what these are for? Thanks |

Offline | Ahh, makes sense. No chance squeezing the PC under there then. This leaves either the glove box or trailing lots of cables to the boot. I've seen a splitter for the radio that gives the power cables I want. |

Offline | After several hours playing around with my car, I found out that this space is too small to fit my PC case, but i took advantage of having the seats out and run the cables under the carpet to the boot. For future reference, the "hole" seems to be 1-1.5" deep, and about 9"x12" |

Offline | DeeHants, I am putting my PC inside the CD changer bracket to the right of the boot, running all cables under the rear seats then under the 2 centre consoles. You could use this :- RealOEM.COM * BMW R53 Cooper S RETROFIT KIT TELEPHONE CONSOLE as a stalk to mount the screen on. |
