The leather on the underside of the steering wheel is starting to fray.
Is this a common problem and are there any obvious remedies?

Mine is a 2 spoke (2002) and its been peeling for a while now.

My 2 spoke did the same - Cotswold Mini replaced the wheel under warrenty with no problems at all!!

Local dealer knocked mine back under warranty. Took photos that were sent to BMW, still knocked back.

My one had the same problem. i brought the car from a dealer which i managed to knock him down on the price because of the fraying steering wheel and then when i got it home i went to my local dealer and asked about a warrant claim, as the car was over 3 1/2 years old i thought i might be pushing my luck but as i explained to the service manager that you would expect the steering wheel to last the life of the car which he agreed with he managed to cover the cost of the parts IE the steering wheel and i paid the cost of the fitting.
