Gateway 100 + text support

Fitted the Gateway 100 today, no problems there, sounds great and MFSW works without a hitch. Trying to add the text support to the boost stereo though. It's a November 04 car which I believe should handle text ok.

The Dension instructions say to hit disc 6, track 3 and connect the playing mp3. I do this but it flicks up on the headunit 'scanning cds', and goes to disc 5 track 1 and starts playing the first mp3 on my ipod.

Any ideas welcome

On my Gateway 300 I had to install software via my mp3 player before text was supported. Bought mine from Mikey and he sent me the file, although I found it on the Dension website too.

Thanks Humph. That's the page I've been following. Every time I plug it in with the update track playing the headunit flips to 'CD SEARCH' or something similiar and then reverts to CD 5, track 1.

Been so long since I did mine. The good thing about the instructions for the 300 is that they tell you what the headunit will do while uploading the software, the 100 doesn't.

Both sets says "Select the CD# on the head unit which is displayed on the device (car radio display, navigation screen, ...) where you want to get text displayed." Can't remember whether you should press CD 5 when the CD5 Track 1 appears.

I take it your ipod firmware is up to date, and that any Gateway 100 updates have been installed.

A phone call to Mikey's in order I think.

I also fiitted my Gateway100 this weekend(sept 06 cooper), Ive lost my internet access at home so I've had to wait til this morning to check how to enable cd text, I also couldnt select cd6-track3, so i selected cd5 disconnected ipod then played the downloaded file on the ipod put it back on the dension and now i have text display, not sure if its 100% right yet as im still at work and not had chance to test properly. Just one question, do I have to have the Dension display on my ipod or can i have the original ipod graphics with album artwork etc...

Done a quick video of what the stereo does when I try and play the file. Not sure if it'll help.

I tried doing it on disc 5 and it makes no difference. http://www.trackshot.co.uk/misc/stereo.mov

ipod has latest firmware and as far as I can see there is no gateway 100 update

Even without the text display should I be able to jump album etc? at the moment I can only use track forward/back and shuffle with the random button. The CD buttons dont' do anything

Page 8 of the Gateway 100 manual (yes work is that slow today) states that all functions should work without text enabled, so you should be able to jump through your albums by selecting CD2 and scrolling through them using the < > buttons.

The one thing that won't work, or so it would appear, is the browsing menu accessed by pressing CD 6.

One thing that I noticed from your video is you didn't press CD 5 when it appeared on the Radio display, sure I had to on mine.

I've pressed near enough every button

When should you press the button? I've been doing it when I plug the ipod in, then pressing ?

I was thinking that maybe when you connect the pod up (when playing the software update) and it pops back to CD 5 Track 1 or whatever, press the CD 5 button, or whichever CD # pops up on the headunit.

Is the bouncy/shakira track playing on the pod in the video? Is it the first track on the pod? Seems very odd the gateway overrides the pod and starts playing it again afterwards.

If the track is on the radio then that seems to follow with the 300 instructions that say the headunit defaults to radio while the software updates. Update takes about 1 minute and then gateway restarts. This is for updating the software on the 300 though, not the text enabling.

Yeah it was playing on the ipod. I tried to be sneaky and deleted all songs and only left the track update on there so it would default to playing that, didn't help though

I'll try again with the button mashing, thanks for the help Humph !

Doesn't sound as though I'm being much help!

Sure mine took a while to upload, a minute or so.

Give Mikey a call, he's the best man for the job.

When i put the ipod onto the Dension unit, the Stereo display tells me to select CD3, if I dont I dont get text on the display, simply repeat the process(play the BMW mp3) and select CD# to enable text, seems to work for me. Still not fully up to spees as to which buttons do what, more trial and error

If you have text on
Press button 6 - a menu will appear - source, palylists, artists, albums etc
Toggle through them using track up/down to select one press & hold track up
eg if you hold on source - you can select ipod UI, GW UI, aux
If you hold on artists you can then scroll through artists

one question: do you have sat navigation in your Mini?
I've testet the Gateway300 with radio Boost and navigation professional on my '06 Mini. If text is enabled it will be displayed on boost display AND navigation monitor. But then the monitor can't show the navigation information. Has someone else this effect?

This is normal and there is no fix. If you have sat nav, you cannot display text with Dension or DICE.

However, you can go with an Intravee II and get text and full ipod control via the nav. I have it in mine and it works great.
