Offline | Upgrading to MFSW Quick question for you all. Mistakingly I bought my mini with the standard 2 spoke steering wheel and after driving my mates car realised I would love to upgrade. Ive read all the threads about changing the wheel and airbags etc but then I found this (Please see attachment as cant post url for some reason) Apparenty a standard replacment part for the buttons for the steering wheel. Seems a much cheaper and hassle free option but the big question will it work?? Any guidance would be appreciated please |

Offline | Hi woodnut22, You are correct in thinking that the part you found will fit the standard 2 spoke steering wheel. However, the rest of the installation is complicated and very expensive. Have a look at the BMW retrofit instructions: http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/MFSW.PDF |

Offline | Those buttons will fit in an existing 2-spoke wheel. However, the actual harness will need installing and I know for a fact that this is a very, very expensive dealer job, and pretty complex to do yourself. |

Offline | I was quoted £700 by Woodmans to change from a 3 spoke (no MF) to a 3 spoke with MF. Its a days work and they need to fit a new clutch slave cylinder too. Im glad i specced the MFSW on my own car ![]() |

Offline | Hi sorry guys I dont confess to be an expert in this, but to get the MFSW controls do I need to change the whole wiring loom, its not just a case of changing the wheel or in my case the buttons? How much is a new harness? |

Offline | The parts needed can be found in the linked PDF in my original reply. With this you can work out the cost of parts and labour. You will also have to get BMW to code your Mini to make the multi-function wheel actually work! I am not sure if you will need to fit a new clutch slave cylinder (I thought this only applied to the very early Minis off the production line). Hope this answers your question.. |
