Question Sat Nav voice gone awol

Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help. My car went into the stealers to get the ariel cable replaced (don't ask, long story!) as part of the process they ended up replacing the head unit for the updated model (Nice, if i hadn't just bought one from the classifieds!). Since I have got it back the sat nav voice has stopped working, both the nav and stereo seem to work fine and i have checked the volume in the settings. The stereo volume mutes slightly as if it is going to say something but doesn't! I have taken the h/u out and checked the connections but no joy .Can anybody point me in the right direction or offer any tips? I really dont want to have to take it back to the stealer only for them to feck up something else!

When they installed the new head unit, they might not have reconnected the harness that includes the Nav voice. It plugs into the far left (volume knob) side at the rear of the unit. That connector is usually there only when Nav or aux input is installed.

I have got an iPod adaptor which is connected on the left hand side in place of a white connection. Is the nav connection separate to this one?

I am referring to the connector C for Nav in the following diagram. Your iPod is probably on connector B.

Edit: that's assuming you are using an actual iPod adapter, not connecting to the aux input.

Yes thats correct it is an actual ipod adaptor not aux. I haven't got that connection there which is probably the root of the problem. Do you know where this cable comes from? Is it the nav unit under the seat or the screen? Any idea about cable colours or colour of the connection end?

thanks

The cable should be there. My guess is that they forgot to reconnect it to your new head unit and it is hanging loose somewhere in back of the stereo.

Here is the link, dealer is not being particularly responsive as usual.

What year is your MINI?

To summarize what I see in that thread:
  • If the car is an earlier year (e.g. 2003) and you install a newer style headunit with TMC, you may lose the Nav voice. The remedy is to run a new 2 wire cable from the Nav unit to the headunit.
  • If you use a headunit without TMC (e.g. Alpine), Nav voice should not be affected. Also if you have a newer car (e.g. 2006), you should be able to use any OEM head unit (with or without TMC) without affecting the Nav voice.

2003 with new head unit. That is what I thought. Had a look on newministuff but couldn't see the cable so guess it is a DIY job. Trying to get the dealers to fix it seeing as it is their **** up.
