Head unit replacement

A bit of advice please.

I'm looking to replace my 'ye olde MiniDisc' headunit in my 03 MINI. I've been scouring ebay for a 2nd hand MINI single slot CD that I can convert for ipod. As you can see I'm not looking to get the ultimate sound system, but just bring me up to date, a bit.

Does anyone know if standard MINI headunits have security codes?

Is an Alpine headunit a Harmon Kardon or were they two different options?

Any reccomendations for ipod connection? I want the ipod in the glovebox hidden away but charged up.

Cheers for your help.

If you want to go non-OEM then the Alpine 9850RI is great for the iPod connection, I have one in each of the Minis and wouldn't be without them. They are an old model and likely replaced by something better now but I got mine for about £160. You need a fitting kit as well though so that bumps up the price a bit.

Hmmm, that's got me thinking. Thanks for your thoughts, I'll certainly have a look at the Alpine as I'm guessing it's a jump in quality over the OE headunit
