Offline | Rubber Bung... Hi Guys, Today I replaced my Boost cassette with a Boost CD, easy fit, straight swap thanks to great instructions on newministuff.com and all the great advice on these forums! BUT, I forgot to put the rubber bung back onto the new radio, I found it in the cupholder just as I was driving off with a big grin on my face for a job well done.... My question is...how important is this little bung....what is its purpose? Is it safe to leave it off or do I have to take out the radio again!!?? Any help much appreciated! Pete |

Offline | The Cassette that i took out had bare metal mounts that looked like they'd seen a little bit of stress, no plastic on there at all. The boost cd that I put in had all the plastic there, unmarked and virtually looked like new. So....the bung thing kinda relieves pressure on the mounts at the front by supporting the radio at the back? |

Offline | It serves two purposes - the main one is to locate and support the rear of the head unit in a slot/cup behind the dash. If you've got it bolted in securely on the front then it's probably ok, but not ideal. The second task it does is to secure the wiring harness up to the back of the radio, but this isn't critical ![]() ![]() |

Offline | The head unit wiring has a little clip attached to it which is normally placed over the threaded stud on the back of the head unit before the rubber stopper is screwed on ![]() ![]() |

Offline | It also acts as a dampener to reduce cd's jumping from vibration, if it seems secure enough and you don't experience any cd jumps, I'd prolly leave it, if it's too much hassle to put it on. |

| MINI2 Master | Aaaah, that rings a bell from when I waved goodbye to my Wave radio for an aftermarket radio a few years ago. However, I subsequently forgot about that clip when I installed a Boost CD last weekend. Not to worry, though, as I need to dismantle it again to fix the rattles ![]() Oli |
