iPod install into armrest

Hey guys,

Thought you might be interested in this. I just retrofitted an armrest into my 2005 R53 works, and had the Alpine IDA-X001 headunit, plumbed into my HK system using Mikey's HK enabler. The iPod cable that comes with the headunit is very very long, so I decided to run it up to the armrest, and let the iPod live inside where no one sees it, and it doesn't take up a cup holder, or need a no-holes mount. I've since replaced the silver cupholder/gearstick trims with leather JCW ones.

I've done the same thing with the icelink plus cable, but you have to mount the icelink electrics under the gear stick gator

Yup, I ordered up all the bits to retrofit it, I did have the option of the armrest that just bolts under the seats, but I preferred the option of the original.

When you ordered the arm rest, do you also get that extra center console bit or was that already on your car?

My Feb 2004 MCS doesn't have that lovely looking center console bit and would like to add it because the coin tray area would be a prime place to mount my input device for the Nokie CK-20W Car Kit.

I too have the Alpine iDA-X001 so would probably put my iPod in it too

If the Center Console bit doesn't come with the arm rest, any ideas where I can get that bit from too, I trust all I need to do is relocate the tyre pressure reset switch thingy.

All the console comes, but if you choose, you can order the facelift console without the armrest too!

How brilliant of you to point that out!!

One question though, I have a Feb 2004 Pre-facelift R53 MCS tin top. The seller advertises it to fit 2004 - 2006 convertible, so will it fit mine? Have people upgraded their non-facelift center consoles to facelift center consoles before? Is there any difference between the convertible center console and the tin top console?

Just checked the part numbers for the retrofit kit for the armrest for the R52 Cooper S Cabrio, and the R53 Cooper S Hatch, and they're the same, so you shouldn't have an issue Cooper G.

Anybody?!
Will the centre console be the same for my 2002 Mini Cooper aswell as the Cooper-S and convertible?

How hard is it to change the centre console over, are there any guides?!

Cooperman, if you read the few posts above you, there's a wealth of information in them.
