New seats?

Hey all,
Do you think cooper s seats from an 2005 car would fit in a 2001 mini one? If so would it be a HUGE mission or is it quite easy?
Thanks!

I replaced my 2001 MC standard seats with some 2005 post face lift MCS sports seats with no probs at all. You will need a star socket bit to remove the 4 x bolts that secure the rails to the floor and a decent rachet coz these were tight but thats it. When doing this task make sure the ignition is switched OFF and ideally disconnect battery because you need to unplug the airbag and seatbelt pretensioner plugs under the seats when removing the seats and if ignition on then the airbag warning light will come on dash and you will need to get this reset.
Simple DIY task, took me about 2 hours to do front and rear which made a huge difference in driving pleasure for me.

What Buz999 said, but could I just add that it's essential (not just desirable) to disconnect the battery before disconnecting the airbag lead to save the inevitable & expensive trip to the dealer to get the warning light reset!

Also, if you buy the seats used, the previous owner will almost certainly have removed the underseat rails and these will have to be removed from your existing seat and transferred over to the new ones. If you haven't done this before, leave plenty of time! It took me about 2 1/2 hours to carefully do the first one and about 1 hour to do the second (once I'd worked out how to do it! )

If you are upgrading from standard seats to sports ones it's well worth all the effort

Tigger.

A related question. If I upgraded from standard seats on a 2003 Mini One to some full leather seats, is it possible to reuse the airbags, or must I make sure any new seats I buy have airbags?

I probably won't do this, but if the right item comes up on eBay I'll be tempted.

makesure they have airbags, otherwise you are going to have to untitch and restitch them etc. Its very rare that they come without airbags.

I have just bought some new full leather front seats which are heated, so i am retro fitting them into mine, so i have the retrofit kit, which looks quite straight forward to do.

always disconnect the battery, and always handle airbags away from your face when moving them or refitting them. End of the day there is still an explosive device inside so treat it with respect. They have been known to go off just by being handled so be very careful.
