Offline | help fitting stereo Hi Im trying to fit a stereo into my cooper but so far am having great difficulty. I have read the guide on here but where I am struggling is removing the downtubes. I have made 2 attempts at doing it now and have failed miserably. Any tips? Must be something I am doing wrong. I have followed the guide and got as far as pulling the centre back a bit but cant get the downtubes away. PLEASE HELP I REALLY WANNA FIT MY STEREO! LOL If I cant do it then I am just gonna have to take it somewhere to get done Thanks |

Offline | How are they sticking? At the top, bottom, not enough movement in general? What age MINI are you trying to do this on too, as the downtubes seemed to change at least twice during the first generation production period. |

Offline | I pulled the center area away and saw the the polystyrene at the bottom but I couldnt get enough room to get them out. The downtubes come away but I cant get pull them away from the top. I dont really wanna wedge anything in case I put too much force / scratch the surroundings Its a 51 plate cooper |

Offline | Sounds like you're on the right track, it is tight and I know when I first did I was pretty scared of scuffing the silver plastic. I think you just need to hand in there and work it a bit. |

Offline | I take it is just a case of wedgeing out the polystyrene at the bottom and them im all there?? I got the silver plastic too. Fair enough theres some light marks on it already cause of wear and tear but I dont really wanna add more to it lol |

Offline | Just an update Got the polystyrene out of the way and was no problem at all. The tubes gave way and i could get access! Next disapointment though was the kit I got from newministuff seemed awkward to fit. Got the harness adaptor on ok but the aerial adaptor didnt seem to want to fit ![]() Perhaps its just me. I tried everything and it doesnt seem to wanna go. Gonna try and grab and autoleads cable in the morning from somewhere and try again. In the meantime... no stereo! Thanks anyway for your earlier advice. Got there in the end. Cables let me down ![]() |

Offline | my guess is you have pulled part of the back of the radio off along with the aerial plug. Have a look at the back of the radio it should have a square black plastic piece with a round black plastic tube sticking out - if you havnt & its a round metal tube then you have pulled off a piece of the radio with your car connector |
