DIY MFSW in a 3 spoke Steering Wheel

Is it possible to update a 3 spoke steering wheel of a Copper S (R53) to a MFSW with the same steering wheel? What parts should I change??

What should I do?? Is there any manual??

Yours,

It is possible. You will need to change the spoke covers to the MFSW spokes with buttons, and there is a small wiring harness connector to add. You will need to have a dealer program the function into your car's computer.

So I don't need to change the airbag ring, it is suitable for the MFSW too.

Only go to the dealer to reprogram the car.

THX a lot.

The Airbag is the same, but I think there is more to it than just fitting buttons and putting the wiring in the wheel. I'm not sure but I think you need to run a loom up to wheel or something. I've heard its very difficult. Don't quote me on this though as I havent actually looked properly into it.

MINI has retrofit kits for MFSW:

Check with your dealer for the proper kit depending on model year. I believe all MINIs are prewired for MFSW even if it wasn't ordered with the option.

Realoem.com doesn't show in detail what the retrofit includes. Check this link here : Retrofit kit, multifunct. steering wheel These are the parts contained in the retrofit kit. As you see, it's not that easy...

Also would it be easy to fit and does multifunc just plug straight in and can I receive it with the MF already installed in the wheel?

Cheers, Sam

Hi Sam,
No probs, the new jcw steering wheel with air bag would cost £410,the multi funstion kit would cost £150 as for the fitting the system takes between seven and nine hours to fit it is not just a case of 'plug and play' we have fitted a few M/F kits and the wiring is all connected into the dme unit plug, this takes the time so fitting it would cost around £600 as we usually spend a full day
to do the job
Cheers
Chris
