I'm sure I've posted my tips on fitting it.

In case anyone was wondering, the blank just below the windscreen is for a sunlight intensity sensor. This is part of the control system for the automatic air con.

Are you sure that you don't need a switch for that one?

Don't think so - couldn't see a switch when ordered, so we'll see when it arrives.

At less than £5, you can't really go wrong anyway.

Maplin Electronics ( www.MAPLIN.CO.UK )sell flashing LEDs which can be connected directly to a 12v supply.
Superbright 8mm led £1.09, Mounting clip £0.23. ( both last year's prices inc vat)
I have fitted one on each inner door trim panel, above the outside handle, of my Fiesta XR2i based Quantum H4 which is a Hand Built British Sportscar, i.e a Kit Car. A live supply was obtained from the central locking system in each door.

The www.speeding.co.uk one arrived by post today, and requires no switch or battery. It has a wee mounting bracket and connectors which require no wire stripping. Will give it to my dealer prior to collection so they can attach it for me.

I got my flashing light from speeding.co.uk as well, its very good! Connect one wire to a permanent live and the other to one that is live when the ignition is on.

Fantastic, flashes as soon as the ignition goes off.

Good news that it works well, bad news that it invalidates the warranty.

Picked up my car on Friday, and the dealer told me that they would not fit it for me as it invalidates the warranty of any bits it affects. In other words, if your ignition, battery etc go wonky, the dealer may say the flashing light was the cause and not fix it under warranty.

If nobody steals the car for three years, then I'll install it!

So I suppose my nokia car kit will invalidate the warranty??

This can't be true! Are you sure they just don't want to fit it for you!

Don't think so, as they told me they would fit it if I wanted, but only if I was happy about it invalidating part of the warranty - maybe it is just my dealer's take on it - check with your own to see?

Your dealer is right! It's certainly understandable as the flashing LED is an extremely complex, multifaceted device - there's no way a BMW engineered product, or even a NASA spacecraft, can be expected to deal with the wildly varying, unstable and just plain crazy electrical demands of such a complicated contraption. (You have do have to be licensed by the Home Office just to carry a flashing LED around, don't you?) And to hook one up, ohhh….. only Nobel Prize winners would even attempt it - and then only with carefully planning and the proper safeguards in place.

/Sarcasm mode = off/

You could easily buy a simple 9-volt battery (the little rectangular one) at Boots, the proper battery clip at Radio Shack, and run it off of that. Not sure how long the battery would last, but it's worth a try and better than having no flashing LED at all.

Well I fitted mine, and I took both feeds from the unit which controls my mobile phone car kit (which takes it power from the radio) Can't see how that would cause and electrical problems myself. How much current does a small 12v led draw anyway??!!

In the real world of course it won't cause a problem - but car dealers don't live in the real world when it comes to warranties.

Has anyone identified a wire that is live when the ignition is OFF? If so, would appreciate a description of where it is / colour etc. Thanks!
