Getting a wire through the bulkhead

Hi everyone,

I am tryinig to fit a Pioneer amp and speakers in the back of my sons Mini R50 Cooper right hand drive.
I have got most of the install in place but am stuck at getting a power feed wire for the amplifier (40 amp cable - so 1/4 inch or 5mm diameter) through the bulkhead (firewall) and into the engine bay so I can hook up to the battery via an in-line fuse).

I have stripped out the back and down the LH sill (rocker) but can't figure out how to get the wire through the last part.

I have looked at the panel behind the ABS unit where the main loom seems to go but can't see the best way of getting a wire through as the plastic drip cover behind the ABS won't come out.- I can't seem to get up behind the glovebox as there is a section of heater system there, and the ABS unit is probably best left alone.

I would appreciate anyones experience who can tell me the best way of getting the wire through to the battery.

many thanks

Jeff

I know of a couple of rubber grommets through the upper firewall on the LH side of the car. One of them can be seen if you open the bonnet and look under the LH windshield wiper. You should see wires going to and through a rubber grommet. You would punch an extra hole through the rubber for your own wire. There is another rubber grommet in the firewall in the area between the battery and the coolant reservoir. This grommet is less easy to see but you can find it by following a very large wiring harness to where it goes through the firewall. For a right hand drive car I think you will need to remove the glovebox for where it comes through on the passenger compartment side.

most cars i have worked on have a large rubber gromet on the left hand side where the steering wheel arm would come through on the LHD version of the car as most manufacturers use the same shell and just have the hole on both sides! but must admit i do have the pleasure of putting my install in my car in the next few weeks so havn't looked properly yet but thats what i'll be looking for!

godd luck
