2 spoke to 3 Spoke Steering Wheel?

Saw a 3 spoke in a cooper today and realised its a lot smaller compared to my 2 spoke. I have noticed that the 2 spoke in my one is actually pretty big and its a bit of a pain to handle sometimes as I have to lean forward to get my hands round the top the way I sit. Does anyone know if it's possible to change the 2 spoke to 3 spoke? My 2 spoke is a MFSW with cruise control buttons btw. Cheers

it is possible... you'll need a new airbag unit & the new switches for your MFSW. Takes 20 mins to fit plus 20 mins to code everything in i think.

hope this helps!

it's easy to change like for like - I haven't changed from 2 to 3 spoke though. All you need is a spanner and a long thin screw driver .

Not a hard job, just make sure to disconect the battery 1st so you don't have airbag issues.

If you searched you'd have all the info you need as I covered a lot of this last month...
http://www.mini2.com/forum/interior-...bag-light.html

Although the threads about an airbag light issue I suggest you read the whole thing as theres a lot of people chipping in regarding the chance over and is well worth the read. I think I posted the instructions somewhere in there too.

I did it and it looks soooooooooo much better, however I ran into a few issues. If I was to do it again I'd take the bits to a dealer that would agree to do the job and pay them £120 to fit. Messing with airbags is risky!

You might want to check with someone like Woodmans that the 3 spoke is smaller. Possibly you saw the JCW version which is smaller and a thicker rim. I doubt the JCW is much more expensive to change than the standard 3 spoke.

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

The information you need, including converting the MFSW is here: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...d.php?t=112513
The example uses a JCW steering wheel, but fitment is the same as for a standard 3-spoke wheel.

Cool, thanks. I read through a few of those posts on that website and the tutorial, but theres no mention of cruise control buttons. On the 2 spoke theres clearly a separate button to turn the cruise control on and off and + and - buttons for speed up and down, then on the back of the wheel theres the audio control buttons. The 3 spoke shows no sign of buttons for cruise control (turning on) but has circular controls on both spokes. Does the 3 spoke have controls at the back also?

The cruise control on the 3 spokes are the ones on the right and the 3 spoke doesn't have controls on the back, i had the old style 2 spoke and got the controls from mini matt for £25.
