Offline | Door Handles? I just picked up my MCS. My door locks automatically when I drive over 10 MPH and when I stop and shut off the car I believe they automatically open. Here is my dilemma, in order to open the door and exit the vehicle; I have to pull the handle half-way, release, then pull the handle all the way back to finally open the door. Is this correct? My biggest fear is that I will have someone wrench back on the handle trying to open the door and end up snapping the bloody thing off. I suppose, I can give an instructional briefing prior to anyone being allowed to ride in my car, but it seems like a waste of time. Is there any way to shut this off and just have the door open with a simple pull of the handle? Appreciate any comments. '03 MCS - DS/B every option but leather. Lucked out and got the new sport wheel and aluminum pedals. I'm cruising now and loving every minute of it. HK and Rainsensor, definately worth the wait. |

Offline | You can just flick the locking toggle switch below the climate control to unlock things. That is what I do. Personally, I like the automatic locking for its security, but if you don't I believe you can have it turned off - my car was delivered without and I had to ask to have it turned on. Tom F. Offline | this is a bmw feature (or at least they have it on bmw, if not exclusively). you pull the lever once to unlock and again to open. you DO NOT have it programed to automatically unlock. you can ask your dealer to program the car to unlock each time you pull up the hand brake. that way you just have to pull the lever once to open the door. |

Offline | My dealer didn't have time but they said they could program the car, when I pull the hand brake the car will unlock the doors. But until then, I just tell people Before the get into the car, not to SLAM THE DOORS. As well, I tell people to calmly and gently pull the door handles twice without tring to wrench them from the door to unlock and open there doors. God, people aggrevate me when they are in my car. I have never ever had a problem opening and closing the doors of the Mini. I have never understand why my passengers have problems Charles BRG/W MCS |

Offline | My locks don't unlock when the engine is turned off or the hand brake is applied, I prefer it that way. Seems to me the auto-unlock feature is not desireable for safety and security reasons. I would rather manually unlock the doors or just pull twice on the door handle to unlock. Also if the doors unlock when the handbrake is applied will the doors unlock if you use the handbrake to hold you on an incline at a stop light? retroom 2003 MC,LY/W, sport package, wht wheels, cruise, chrome, Kaleido cloth/black, OB computer Last edited by retroom : Dec 30th, 2002 at 12:05 AM. |

Offline | the pull twice trick is not unique to BMWs, Audi's and VWs do the same thing. I like it as it is a security thing to prevent unwanted unlockings. also i've had quite a few people pull hard on the handles, not understanding my instructions of pull twice to unlock. so far no ill effects, the handles are held firmly in place (i know, i;ve had the door cards off). |

Offline | double pump most people don't understand the concept of double pumping the door handle to when it's looked. people just look confused when they pull the lever and the door doesn't open. I tell them to do it again, but they just look at me dumb and try to pull the lock pin by hand. Then i have to explain to them again, that the first pump unlook the door and the second time opens the door. Now I just use the unlook switch before people feel trapped. |
