Programing Comfort Opening (US)

I know this has been batted around for a bit here and I need to find out what the general consensus is!

Does anyone that has a July 2002 build car have the comfort openings programmed, i.e. sunroof and windows down from the key fob?

Had a service appointment (leaky coolant tank) on Monday and asked the service manager to check if they had figured out how to program the sunroof, he said that the Regional (Southeast US) Service Advisor said it couldn't be done. They have heard "rumors" that there is one dealership that figured out how to do it, but that's all. He was unable to provide any additional info/reason.

Now I'm looking for data. If you've had your comfort openings programmed in your June, July, Aug, Sept 2002 Cooper by your dealership, could you kindly post the dealer name so that I can point my dealership in the right direction. Thanks

I took delivery of a 2003 MCS in October from Mini of St. Louis. I do not have the sunroof, but my windows drop if I hold the unlock button on the key fob for more than 2 seconds. One push unlocks the driver's door, the second push unlocks the passenger door and hatch, and if I hold it from that point on, the windows drop.

Hope that helps.

My '03 MINI was built in the latter part of September and was delivered by Irvine MINI in California with the Comfort Opening active.

July 15 production. No sunroof, but the dealer was eventually able to program the comfort opening for the windows.

Not sure what my build date is, but I took delivery of my 03 MCS end of November from Herb Chambers in Boston, MA and I got them to program Comfort Opening. The salesman said he had never seen it before, and was most impressed.

Late June build Cooper S, comfort opening programmed by Keeler MINI (Latham NY) at the time of delivery (early August). They were uncertain about it, but I pointed them in the direction of Westchester MINI (who knew how to do it), and they did it no problem. Put them in contact with Keeler, Westchester, Herb Chambers, Peabody, etc., if they want to know how to do it...

Thanks to all that have responded

I knew it could be done, now I just have to convince the service people.

If anyone else has had success please reply.

I realize that this function might not be needed for a few more months (right Ricardo?) but I've been getting the same song and dance for awhile.

How about a comfort CLOSE?

I know that Mercedes autos have this feature. Lock the car with the key fob and all the windows go up and the roof closes. Now THAT would be a real convenience for me in Florida. Any one know if this is programmable?

Not via the key fob, only by holding the key in the 'locked' position in the handle. So half way there.

My dealer eventually figured out how to do it. One of the staff said it involved using Canadian specifications (!). My car is a July 2002 build.

They succeeeded with two programmed items, and failed with a third:

1) Comfort opening via the remote key was programmed.
2) Daytime running lights was also programmed.

But they couldn't figure out how to program all doors to unlock with one (not two) presses of the remote key. Anyone had any luck with that?

It was a hassle to get the programming. Three different staff members of the dealership told me three different stories about what could and what could not be programmed. Only the guy in the service dept seemed to really know.

My dealer is Princeton Mini. 609-452-9400.

I think this is because of not having the anti-pinch safety on close. Just like no one-touch up on the windows (at least in the US). You could use the remote when you can not see the car and inadvertently injure someone.

Atlanta

What exactly are we talking about - that the Atlanta dealer can do?

Make my keyfob remotely close all the windows and roof - like a Mercedes?

or just actually "figure out" how to do the NORMAL comfort open that ALL the dealers should know how to do by now anyway, for GOD SAKES it's been over a year?

Hire some that can read a book.

Take a chill pill

They know how to read, just seems that some of us (or maybe just those that deal with my dealership) are having difficulty in getting it done. If you saw the original post that I made I was looking for Dealers that had been able to make this happen and minijim has answered the question. Have you?

prestige motors in mahwah new jersey did mine. your dealer is either a bit dense, or does not want to do the research. hopefully i will not be eating those words! I have heard that ALL the MINI's can be programmed. my dealer didn't know how at first, but then they found it in some MINI manual. it takes all of 2 seconds.

Herb Chambers MINI in Boston claimed that US cars couldn't have that done, as it was a safety feature. for preventing carjackings.

It annoys me too.

Yes, I'm sure you're right, Twostep. How unfortunate. What times we live in!

Had it done here in Concord with no problem, along with the automatic door locks. Oddly, the service rep was a little apologetic for it only working partially, saying I had an early build which would take the software completely. It turned out she expected the windows and sunroof to close when you press and hold the lock part of the key. Also, she said with the new option, the windows would open if you put the key in the door lock and hold it in the unlock position. It's nice that's finally working.

My dealer thought the windows were suppose to close too if you hold down on the lock button.

So is it suppose to close or not ?

The windows on my Sept'02 build MC will only open not close from the remote key.
