| MINI2 Senior | Does anyone know what software/hardware is used by the dealer to program the Mini? Sorry Mac friends, but I'd have to imagine that it is some PC based system with a proprietary interface cable. Does anyone have a copy, or has anyone seen a copy? Has anyone seen the service department program their Mini's options and can tell us at least what it looks like? I've been reading threads and FAQs all morning but have not been able to find any of this information. Regards, Dave |

Offline | My dealer has PCs with the software on a CD. I didn't see them do the upgrade but there is only one port so that has to be it. Not sure about the plug but I would bet it's likely a standard BMW one. aka KWKSLVR Member: Southern Ontario MINI Club BMW Club of Canada - Trillium Chapter |

| MINI2 Senior | Thanks so much Dean. That is what I was looking for. If you go underneath all the wires and cabinet, you will find a PC with an airconditioning unit (how thoughtful for the electronics), probably a proprietary interface for all the cables, and a CD-Rom that drives the whole thing. Sure, I am fully aware of the warranty implications Hat. I am not advocating that anyone do anything illegal, or improper, like pirating proprietary software, or go out and do anything they are not comfortable with on their Mini. But also realize that the minute you put in a roll cage and take it out racing, or even put in that aftermarket radio, there are also warranty implications. There has been a lot of discussion about members being charged large sums of money for simple programming changes on their Minis. I'd like to think that there is a product out there somewhere, now or in the future, that would allow an interface from a handheld or laptop computer, or even my good old desktop, that would allow me to make some choices about my windows, daytime running lights, etc. Right now there are products that will allow the onboard diagnostics computer's (OBD) codes to be read by a handheld. Maybe some day it will be possible to make my windows go one-touch down with my Compaq Aero, too. Thanks everyone for the information and pictures. Regards, Dave |
