Offline | Ipaq GPS and visibility pack has anyone had any experience of running a product such as Navman 3000 or 3400 on an Ipaq with a car (not necessarily a mini) with a heated front windscreen? If so, i would like to hear if the element has caused any disruption / interference or loss of signal - my new cooper is to have the vis pack, but i don't eant to order the navman if it wont work. ta E |

Offline | Re: Ipaq GPS and visibility pack No personal experience as such with the IPAQ, but I do have a GPS antenna for my speed trap detector. The manual on this says that its performance will be affected behind a 'heat reflective', 'comfort' or 'metal oxide' windscreen. Fortunately, I don't have the heated screen. However, all is not lost. If you get the Tomtom software for the IPAQ I belive this comes with a magnetic mount GPS antenna, like I have for my detector. Strangely enough I find this works in the rear side window. It's shown on my web site at http://www.mibaillie.co.uk/snoopers6-rneo.html if you want to see what it looks like there. ian |

Offline | I've got a Navman 3400 running on an Ipaq 3680 and it works very well - I've used the supplied vacumm sucker mount that I've stuck to the windscreen on the right side if the steering wheel. I don't have the heated screen though. After initialisation, I generally get 5 or 6 satellite fixes whilst driving round, and 9-10 fixes standing outside. The only thing I have seen on the web round the problem of receiving the satellite signal is to get a re-transmitter - essentially an external antenna you stick on the roof, passing the signal to a transmitter you place on the rear parcel shelf, which the Navman unit then receives. Post your results if you proceed with Navman! John It's electric blue and it's really very speedy ![]() http://www.mini2.com/gallery/persona...signature4.jpg |

Offline | MCS1, i have a 3630 ipaq - and i went onto the Navman web page to see if the 36xx series was compatable with the 3400 voice system. they appear to indicate that only the Navman 3000 is compatable with the 36xx series ipaq, and the 3400 voice is for the 37xx, 38xx and 39xx series ipaqs. can shed any light on whether 3600 series, running ROM ver. 1.87 would be able to run 3400 voice? Ihave mailed navman in the meantime to see what they say. What other hardware would i need? e.g CF cards etc? thanks for your help E |

Offline | Sorry - In my original post I said I was using an Ipaq 3680 - but it's not - it's a 3630. It's running older ROM than you, too - Version 1.77.00 ENG, OS Version 3.0 The user manual does state that the Navman 3400 is only for Ipaq's 37XX and above, but i read a review in a GPS magazine of the 3400 where they only had a 3630 in the office and it was working fine.... so I took the risk and it's paid off - so far. The Navman manual also says not to use IBM micro-drives for the maps - due to current requirments and the like, but I've ignored that too and no problems. Been using the Navman every day since 28th December, and it's not fried yet! Though it might happen any day now.... ![]() John It's electric blue and it's really very speedy ![]() http://www.mini2.com/gallery/persona...signature4.jpg |

Offline | Bring this back to top..... Is anyone using the Navman hardware on the Ipaq with the heated front window? If so, does it work or cause interference? Do i have to think about a re-radiating antenna ta E |

Offline | How about with the factory fitted tints? My father has had a lot of problems getting his Navman to lock with the factory tints on his Seat Ibiza.. although the windows on our Fiat Doblo have a light tint and that works fine... |

Offline | The secret here is if any thing that has a metallic component to it, is placed on your windscreen or side windows it will limit the amount of Radio signal trying to enter the car. Examples are metal foil used for windscreen heating or to improve vision (glare reduction) and metal window tints. Now this is not to say that things like GPS receivers, toll tags, radar detectors or anything that uses RF signal to work, will not work in the car. But its performance will be reduced due to the metal film on the glass. |
