Offline | Door speaker adapter Here's a picture of my adapter. It has the inner measures to fit my MBquart's, but you will easily change this. One thing that is not mentioned on the sketch is the maximum depth of the speaker assembly. I have not yet checked this thoroughly. You'll find that this space is rather limited due to the window mecanism. The adapter can be made of 30mm MDF to allow a speaker with more depth, but then it is a tight fit to the door cover. Offline | What I'm contiplating on doing is removing the stock speaker grill and using the ones that come with the new speakers. If I do that, I can mount the speaker directly to the door instead of making an adpater, and could be mounted from the front of the door card which will give a little extra clearance. Of course, this will be dependant on how the aftermarket speaker grill looks, because I'm not mounting it if it looks dookey ![]() |

Offline | that's a good idea, but i don't consider the door cards stiff enough to hold the speakers. the spacers aren't really that hard to make, and are much sturdier to mount to. my 6.5 speakers pound pretty hard, i think the door cards would rattle too much. i also wouldn't want people to see the aftermarket speakers. better heard then seen. |

Offline | You can get away with not mounting tweeters to a solid surface mine are wedged in to the tweeter carriers in the front with really thick draft excluder but midrange and bass speakers need to be screwed in to something solid as if not they will loose sound qulaity and just end up flexing the door cards, and generally not making the sort of sound u would wish for. Your best off either trying to find or making ur own spacers, if u want the speakers to be on show you could always make a bigger set of spacers and cut part of the door card and cover them with the aftermarket speaker grills. I remember somebody did this with a set of tweeters where they mounted them through the tweeter grills on a piece of plastic, they also angled them towards the driver for sound imaging. Cant remember who this was now. Hope this help Chris. ![]() |
