Sound Module Speaker Upgrade From Dealer

A question for all you Ice people out there.

When i come to pick my cooper up on the 1st March it will have Radio Boost and CD Changer in.
I know i am yet to listen to the radio and i may like the sound set up.
However i have seen other threads saying that you can get the soundmodule upgrade for speakers and amp. Has anyone had this fitted through the dealer and if you have how much did it cost and is it a good buy?

Cheers,
Stuart

i too am interested in the sound module it costs £450. there are some fitting instructions at

http://www.minimania.com/images/Inst...0for%20LHD.pdf

looking at these i think it would take quite some time to fit so labour costs could be high and may not be compatable with cars with satnav like mine hope this helps

I may wait and save up for this piece of equipment possibly.

Why dont you get the hartge Kit for £1500? Takes MCS up to 212bhp i believe for fraction of cost.

I will save for Sound Module though if i feel boost is not substantial enough.

thats a good price if it includes labour. Is the car new if so you will only pay what it says in the accesories catalog as it will be classed as a predeliver fit item. looking at the ammount of work to be done it is allot the speedo and dash have to be taken off and the rear speakers have to be changed for uprated ones and an amp goes behing the speedo and some wiring has to be done. if you go to http://www.mini2.com/guides/pdf/SoundModuleNG.PDF
this tells you exactly what is fitted and what is done tell me how it sounds when you get it done

Do not waste our money if your are after good sound, spending so much money you should be getting this. £500 pounds will buy you a system with 5 channel amplifier, which will give you the ability to have a sub. I am currently testing a Focal setup, after considering the H/K and was advised that would be better off spending the extra money for the right sound. The H/K option is only a better option to the standard fit you will hear the difference automatically with this system and a semi pro ice system

Wot speaker upgrade kit are we talking about here? Its hard to follow! The wave to boost is £135 on a new car, and this doesnt actually change the speakers at all. It just changes the amplifier in the stereo which gives you 4x15 watt as apose to only a pathetic 4x5watt on the wave system. The harman karden system is £350which includes an amp in the rear side compartment of the boot, and speaker upgrades of which are cant exactly remember. The sound module on the other hand I know nothing about and am also interested, although in my price book it is £450 odd. SO where does this £165 come from? What upgrade did you get Andysav to gain 170 watt?

Is this an option that is available to US buyers? I'm thinking that I will go aftermarket but hadn't heard about this sound module before. The most interesting part to me is the installation of the amplifier behind the head unit. Now I'm wondering if the JBL P80.4 amp that I'm considering would fit in that location. Does anyone have specs (LxWxH) on the sound module amp? Thanks for posting the link to those installation instructions!

From what I know the sound module fits an amp behind the speedo and upgrades the speakers to the 170W so they can be used to there full extent. The system goes for loudness where as the h/k system goes for refinment. As for the size of the amp it must be small there is not alot of room in the dash. As an option in the US havent a clue but if the head unit is the same and the loom (should be) the a retro fit could be done if you can get the parts.
