Offline | CD Changer on 2003 Model year cars Picked up my BRG Mini One with Sunroof, 8 spokes, sports seats and chrome. It looks a million dollars. No problems yet, 600 miles in 6 days! Had a few problems getting comfortable in it though (had my last car 7 years, inevitable) but I'm settling in well with it now. Anyway....I left it with standard radio wave which means I have a radio cassette player which sounds good enough for me. Only thing is I don't do cassettes. So I went on Mini2 links and bought myself an OE changer to go in the boot. Downloaded the paperwork and stuck my head in the back and had a llok. Doesn't say in the paperwork and I can't find anything on the forum search so; > On 03 model year cars are the all holes already drilled? Paperwork says drill but I can see 2 pull out gromets roughly where I thought they should be. > Is it really necassary to remove the side boot trim and re-route the wire to flat on the boot floor? I took a look and thats a big old panel. The CD prep wire seems long enough to fit out of the access hole > Do people cut the boot carpet or lay the changer loosely on top? Thanks in advance John |

Offline | JohnN - can't comment on the 03 model - but on my 02 coop the interior trim had two screws and a grommit. To fit the changer - remove the access panel and locate the cd prep cables. Remove the screws and gromit then GENTLY pull the panel out slightly and push the prep cable down the back of the trim, then fish it out from the bottom (after removing the carpet out the way. Then assemble the cd changer in the bracket, plug in the two cables and offer it up to the mounting holes (the changer sits vertically) in the boot, and screw the changer on through the panel. Replace the carpet, stick in you favourite CD and turn the volume up! Hope this makes sense! Can take a few pics if you need them but it really should only take 10mins max and require absolutely no drilling, cutting or anything invasive! Dingdangdoo! |

Offline | OE changer works with both - i have a wave h/u and bought the changer from someone who had a boost - works fine - only thing you don't get with the wave unit is random play. Dingdangdoo! |

Offline | Which "OE" changer did you fit?....Sony T69? I'm going to be in a similar position, as I can't get my existing changer & HU to talk to the MFSW, so my only option is to either fit a std MINI unit, or go for the OE kit via an independent shop. ![]() |

Offline | er.....I know that! (used to work in the Automotive industry) Since Mini & BMW do not make the ICE equipment fitted, it comes from a std manufacturer....I've heard Alpine & Phillips mentioned. Therefore you should be able to fit the appropriate corresponding unit from the manufacturer, bought via a 3rd party.....ie not pay through the nose from your dealer! All I need to know is who makes the OE HU (Wave) and which changers are compatible....again I've heard Sony T69....but I've not had confirmation that it is correct. ![]() |

| MINI2 Master | Aaah, I see Wobert. I'm sure the Wave is either Philips or Alpine. However, a lot of people (including me) have been down the same line of thinking. I don't think there is a non-BMW-branded equivalent of the standard BMW changer. I think we're stuck with either using the BMW/MINI unit or using a Blitzsafe/Connects2 adaptor. As an aside, I think the bus that the changer sits on is BMW-specific. I expect that BMW have made the OEM sign an agreement not to compete against the BMW-branded units. |

Offline | I got home last night and my Changer had arrived. It turns out what I ordered was a Sony T69 kit with interface (doh - thought I was getting bog standard BMW thing). Anyway the spacing is correct for the holes in the boot trim and it seemed to fit OK so I tried it out. Plugged it all in, set the installation angle indicator correctly and plugged in. All seemed OK last night, discs playing fine. Sound not marvellous but it is just the standard wave system so I wasn't expecting miracles. Better than Ford or Nissan standard systems anyway. Driving in this morning however, I heard a loud whining noise that you can hear with the disc, getting louder as volume is turned up. Sometimes terrible, sometimes went away. Only on the changer not on radio or tape. Anybody else had this happen? I have the adaptor and long cabling that comes with Sony T69, I'm going to remove all the cabling, re-route it all and try again. Hoping it must be a dodgy changer or interface, not crosstalk through the CD Prep wiring. Cheers John |

Offline | JohnN Can you let me know how you get on?.......as I'm considering doing something similar, as my current HU & Changer are not compatible with my MFSW, so the only way to go to get CDs is the changer.... the T69 is £100 cheaper than the MINI branded unit....provided it works! ![]() |

Offline | Got my replacement connect2 box that connects sony T69 to mini. Sound system is now superb, really pleased with it, glad I didn't bother with boost. Top tip: there is a date printed on every connect2 box - if it says 2001 send it back as these are the first version boxes and mini doesn't like it. My new one is a 2003 version and all is tickety boo. Cheers John |

| The Power Cube | I plan onfitting the T69 to my MCS. Can you provide me with more details on the connector box ? Where do you get it from and what is the product reference ? Did you manage to fit the CD changer as Wul had explained ? ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | I fitted the T69 changer with connect2 interface box from www.in-carexpress.com from the links page I got from this site. The connect2 box was teh faulty bit - for use in a mini you will need a connect2 interface box manufactured in 2003. My 2001 box added a bad whistling noise and crackling. I simply removed the two screws from the right hand side of teh boot, fitted the connect2 interface box inside the access panel that is there then threaded the cables down the back of the trim in the boot so the poke out just above the boot carpet. I then set the installation spring setting to vertical, and fixed it with two screws only to the side of the boot trim. To be honest it could do with more screws to make perfect but with jusrt the two original ones its firmly fitted and doesn't jump. I'm pleased withe the sound - I find the bass a little boomy and 'boxy' but it's a car after all not a listening room. The only thing is the cd changer does get in the way a little where I have it. I put a hedge trimmer in the boot this weekend and clobbered it, but I'll have to live with this I spose. Hope this helps JN |

| The Power Cube | Nice one. I got my T69 for £150 and the C2 box for £50. I assume the hole in the trim that already exist align well with the T69 fittings ? i.e. you don't have to use the MINI cradle. I have the H/K system so the space in the boot where you fitted the C2 box is taken up by the amp. I'll find somewhere for it though. ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | The two holes there line up OK, so you would have to drill if you want 4 screws in (I didn't) I never knew HK kit had the amp in the boot. I saw a thread somewhere here that someone put their changer where the mobility kit was though - looked quite neat Is the HK kit good? May think about that if I ever upgrade cars ;-) |

| The Power Cube | H/K is rather quite good. Superb quality. Just needs to be 'understood' really. Also, I'll be taking my front door panels off to secure things that rattle when I turn it up. Somebody said there were screws missing in their door internal sections so I'll have to see for myself on my own car.... ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |
