Removing Center Console?

Does anyone have any tips for removing the center console (two front cup holders etc.)? It looks pretty straightforward, but if anyone knows something I don’t but should, I’d like to hear from you before I start wrenching.

I need to mount a bracket adjacent to the cup holder and it looks like I can do a nice, clean install to the underside of the cup older using the existing screw on the bottom of the cup holder if I can get under the console to do it.

Thanks!

Perfect. Thanks!

Miniac, I did check the "How to Remove Interior Bits" post, but it does not address the console. (It DOES address the down tubes though.) Perhaps Obehave's reply could be added to the DIY FAQ.

I am mounting a mobile radio head which will fit nicely in the Moss MINI Cubby Hole Tray, but I need a mic holder too. It will fit up quite well next to the cup holder.

Oh . . . I'll try to take some pictures when I do the job. Maybe I can put together the DIY FAQ with them. I am going to try o get this done this weekend. I need the radio in by next Friday.

Steps 3 - 7 of How to remove the dash downtubes:
  • Remove the gearshift surround:

Pull gently straight up so you don't break any of the 4 pins holding it to the center console.

Pull the surround up as far as possible to avoid creasing the leather while you work.

  • Remove the side-mirror adjustment unit:

Reaching through the opening behind the gearshift, depress the two metal prongs and push up from underneath the unit to pop it up.

  • Remove the 2 Phillips-head screws now visible.
  • Remove the Phillips-head screw from the middle of each cupholder.

Ohhhh . . . I see. Didn't look at the details since i wasn't specifically planning on removing the down-tubes and I didn't realize that removing the down-tubes includes removing the console.

There's actually another way to remove the downtubes without touching the center console
