Offline | Factory fitted CD Autochanger Hello I'm sure there is already information regarding this subject posted somewhere but I'm having difficulty finding it. I have the standard wave head unit with the 6 CD Autochanger. I would like to upgrade my head unit but first would like to know which head units are recommended (Sony etc)and compatible with my factory fitted autochanger (I don't really want to change this). Any info would be much appreciated. | MINI2 Master | I think you may be stuck here. All the adaptors seem to cater for those who want to plug an aftermarket changer into a factory head unit and not the other way around. The factory Wave radio and changer use the I-bus protocol, which is BMW specific. Although the changer is made by Alpine (I believe), it uses the I-bus rather than Alpine's changer connections, so an Alpine head unit is ruled out. I think your only option may be to source a Boost head unit from someone who has upgraded. The Wave radio is pants, isn't it? |

Offline | I think I'd have to agree with minhi on this one. I brought my Cooper with the Wave and Cd Changer and it wasn't long until I realised how bad the wave was. I spent ages trying to locate adapters so that I could use an aftermarket head unit with the changer. I think really, you have the following options: 1) Get your dealer to fit a Boost for you - Nearly £500 to do this though and your dealer will also need to order an adapter so that Boost will work with the Wave's wiring. 2) Buy an aftermarket head unit and flog the BMW changer on Ebay or on Mini2. You can then order an aftermarket changer, however you won't be able to use the existing cable. Still, it's a cheaper option and you should be able to find a really decent head unit. I chose option 1 as I wanted the head unit to match the interior of the car. Hope this helps.
