I always just assumed that the sat nav would come with the appropriate cd rom. But I was just using the configarator on mini.co.uk and it says that the cd is available seperatly. Can anyone who ordered the nav tell me if comes with a disk or not? thanks

You should get a CD with the system. I have checked with MINI Customer Services, they say that the cost of the system includes the first CD. Up-dated CDs or CDs for other countries can be purchased from your dealer. The up-dated CDs for the Sat.Nav are released about 6 monthly. So its back to the dealer. The current version I believe is 2003-1.

how can you check what version of the CD or DVD you have and how can you tell difference from dvd to cd.

The case for my CD has the version number on the front (2002-2 for Aug '02 build), and on the back says "CD" by the part number. I imagine that the disc has similar info on it.

The dealer gave us the CD separately when we took delivery of the car and showed us how to put it in the sat nav box.

Thanks for that info Red - I have checked the version on the display which states sw 3-1/61 - This was updated by dealer on Friday who confirmed was the latest version - will go back out to car now to check disc

Red checked my disc which say august 2002-02, So if they have updated the disc what have they used may I ask, or are the updates just a patch or something.

My understanding is that the CD is purely the mapping data, so you can swap it for an updated one or one for a foreign country.

The software level is something different - I guess that is installed via a CD that is only available to dealers. I will check the level of mine in the morning.

I would say that sounds more likely, it sounds like some kind of firmware or something.

Ver. 3-1/61 is the latest software/firmware upgrade. This upgrade is achieved by inserting an programming CD into the system. The CD you get with the system is just the information for route planning and maps. The latest CD version available is January 2003-1. This has been available since February 2003, so should have gone out with all units after that date. I don't know about the DVD systems, whether they use the same CD or not.

Right so basically the data cd I have is out of date, I have already been told by my dealer that the new cd will be out soon and there is a charge of about 140 pounds.

I paid £89 for the latest CD from my MINI Dealer. I told him that I thought it would be a nice gesture to let me have the updated CD free. "No go" I had to pay the full price.

Your CD not out of date. It's just missing some of the new data that has been added since it was produced. A friend at my office is still using ver. 2001-2 very happily.

I am having nightmares in London and surrounding suburbs at the moment. Doing a Lot of motorway & a road driving - I suppose It will never be perfect like any other sat nav. Is it possible you can pm me the dealer so I may order direct from them instead of Vines in Guildford?

I have tried !! At least 5 times. Different CDs, Different copy programme, Different speeds. All the files have copied across and the 'silver' of the CD looks the same but the Sat Nav will not read the disc, says there is no disc there. I have also tried different copier systems, computer and CD player/copier on my hifi. No luck. If anyone has any other ideas????
