United-States Rain Sensing Wiper Question

I have the rain sensing wipers on my new MCS. If I have the switch in the on position for my auto rain sensing wipers and shut the car off they do not come back on when I restart the car. I have to turn the switch back to the off position and back up to the auto rain sensing position for them to reactivate. Is this normal or does my MINI have a problem. Any advise or comments would be greatly appreciated.

March 03 build. Mine are the same way. In an earlier thread, this was said to be the norm.!

Mine was built in April. Thanks. Glad to hear that it is normal even if it doesn't make sense to me.
Thanks for the information.

Seems a good idea to me.

I didn't engage my brain before putting mouth in gear. I have summer motoring on the brain and didn't give a thought to ice and cold weather. I understand the feature is indeed a safety device. Thanks very much.

I do love the site. Are you going to the MINI Italian Job movie event at Checkered Flag next Thursday. If so I will see you there.
Look forward to meeting you in person.

It's normal, though it's not explained well in the owner's manual.

It is normal, it is a safety thing.

It is to make sure that the wipers don't engage if there is an obstruction on the windshield (i.e. activating as you drive through a car wash) and possibly damage the wipers.

And let me say I have NEVER had my wiper blades freeze to my windshield in any vehicle I've owned....

Unfortunately you've probably only lived in nice climates. In the 7 years I've been driving around all parts of NY and cleveland, its happened lots and lots of times. Ice and snow just seem to find me, and I've never had the luxury of parking in a garage. Not that I've used auto wipers, but this makes perfect sense for anything northish, even if you park in a garage, you could go to the store and have your windshield freeze.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.
