Offline | Genesis 6x9 subs the report Alright my stereo is finally finished and it would be a big understatement to say that I am happy with it. The car went in on Friday to the lads at Oxford Car Audio who as usual did a fantastic job (cheers guys). Come 4:30 on Friday after much time wasting and impatient pacing I recieved the call to say the stereo was done and to imform me that they had had to use a couple of packs of extreme which they had not expected to and needless to say I was not upset in the slightest I was also imformed that all the guys at the shop had been sat in my car grinning manicly, which was deffinatly a good sign. So I picked up the car and popped in a nice bassy track and smilled then the bass dropped properly and I grinned manicly the MINI was then imidiatly taken on a 3 and a half hour test drive to deepest darkest south wales durin which the stereo was put through a wide range of tunes from dark and dirty sci-trance to the red hot chilly peppers and did not disapoint at any point. The bass does not take the michelle compared to a big boot build but considering that they are just 6x9's and there is not boxed 12 in my boot the bass takes the pi** Me and the guys in the shop are agreed that the Genesis subs are well worth it and should be equivalent to one boxed 12 in the boot. P.s. Restyle you have a PM BTW. ![]() Got:Alpine 9815RB,Rockford Fosgate Power 851X,Diamond M661(150RMS), Diamond M6 12" Dual 2(500RMS) |

Offline | That is great to hear! I have been thinking lately about how I was going to make some sort or enclosure for the 6x9's but now it sounds as thought it may not be necessary. At least I can try and drop them in and see how it sounds but you seem to be mightly impressed LOUD little MINI. Did they line the insides of both panels with dynamat? Also, how much did they put in? I am stoked to hear that you are happy. Hopefully I will be too in July ![]() Just one more thing. Where did you but them from again or do you know of any places on the net or by mail order that does them? Thanks Jeb CR/W Cooper S - It has arrived!! |

Offline | They did dyno-mat the panels i think they used 2 packs in all but I'mo not sure. Unfortunatly Genesis will not allow their kit to be sold over the net if you contact Gordon and ask him he wil point you towards your nearest dealer, I had to do a 2 hour round trip to get mine. Offline | I have been waiting patiently for my dad to fix mine in. I picked them up the day they were released about 4 weeks ago and he still hasn't got round to doing it. I am tight and refuse to pay some one else to do when my dad can do it just as well (if not better) than strangers. What are the packs of extreme?? Is it like Dynamat?? |

Offline | There's a whole article on Genesis and their audio test MINI in one of the UK Mini mags, possibly Miniworld, and they give some good details of the speakers, from memory. Sounds impressive. |

Offline | Can someone point me to some reviews online? Like I said, the firm's site doesn't show their speakers. Google found a French company also named Genesis that does audio-related work, but it won't let me in to see. Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | Must admit that I’d been looking forward to the release of these speakers. Subwoofer performance from a 6x9, without having to waste precious boot space with a boxed subwoofer. Great. Or so I thought ...... Speakers finally arrived. First problem. They don’t fit into the standard 6x9 speaker holes. The holes needed to be modified – I decided that the easiest way was to gently bend the metal edge inwards using a hammer. After much cursing, the aperture was finally big enough to accept the Genesis ‘subs’. As recommended by Genesis, I sealed the area to the rear of the speaker cavity with builders foam. WARNING: I would NOT recommend this! Despite being very careful, I managed to get it on some of the interior trim and this stuff NEVER comes off! I lined the speaker cavity with plenty of sound deadening material – in this case Dynamat Extreme. So speakers in place I switched on my Alpine head unit and turned up the subwoofer volume….. Result ? Very Loud bass!!! Good? No. Very muddy, boomy, panel rattling bass. To sum up, these speakers sounded like listening to amped front speakers, without tweeters, and with the bass turned right up on the head unit. Not subwoofers. Loud? – Yes. But quality – No. Now, this may all be due to my very poor install skills – but I have fitted plenty of audio stuff in the past and have never been as disappointed with a product as this before. I gave the speakers a chance to bed in for a couple of weeks. No improvement, so I bought a custom Auto Acoustics StealthBox for my Directed CompX 10” Subwoofer. (from a previous install in my last car). Box fits perfectly in the boot taking up very little precious space. And the sound? Absolutely superb!!!! Tight, Punchy, Loud – Top Quality! My Advice: The sound from these speakers obviously suits other people on this forum, and elsewhere, so listen to them before making a purchase. I didn’t and now have a rather expensive set of ‘rear fill’ speakers. The Auto Acoustics StealthBox is well worth the money. Costs as much as a pair of Genesis P69 speakers, just for the box, but with much better results (IMHO). Gone but not forgotten |

Offline | MKCooperS - What's the chance that you have an air leak in your foam enclosure? Are the Genesis 6x9's a free-air speaker? Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | Try mounting you sub inverted (with the back sticking out the box), I found the Auto Acoutics box too small for my JL 10w3, with it inverted it sounds 1000x as good!! (P.S. Remember to invert the phase as well) 2002 Porsche Boxster |

Offline | MKCooper S, it could be that you are not very good at fitting speakers? This would explain why my system is the dogs as is little loud mini's and we all have the genesis 6x9s. I have had £2K systems in all the cars i have ever owned and this is up there, despite being the cheapest. p.s. i can't fit f.a. either. my dad done it. |

Offline | well i'd like to know how you can improperly fit 6x9 speakers that are meant to be "drop-in" ![]() but seriously, what must you do? sounds like MKCooperS did use foam to seal the area (much more then i'd expect for drop-in speakers). what else was he supposed to do? maybe this is a music listening difference? I had some 6x9 "subs" in a custom made rear deck and they were fine for rock and some pop music, but for nice jazz and rap music it was no good. Exactly as MKCooperS describes muddy, boomy bass. I replaced them with 1-8Inch subwoofer (Elemental Designs E8A) in a .3cf sealed box and it's a world of difference on all music. So not all speakers work for all people, good to know! |

Offline | 149.99 is what i paid for them. maybe the rest of the set up has something to do with the over all sound too. well, it is pretty obvious that would be the case. mine is an active system powered by a genesis amp, not sure what type of amp but it cost £450.00 if that helps narrow it down. |
