Pictogram?

On the US MINI Cooper and Cooper S specifications, it lists this feature as standard:

"Check control vehicle monitor system with pictogram display"

I couldn't find this on the mini.co.uk site as being on UK MINIs. It probably is, right? If so, what exactly is it and what does it look like?

Pictures of it would be helpful

would that be a posh way of saying the speedo has little pictures on it that light up when something goes wrong?

Got a feeling that this is the little black display on the Rev Counter that might come up with Oli or Service and maybe a little picture of and oil can or a spanner

Is the pictogram something to do with those 7 dots on the speedo, and six dots on the tacho?

Can someone who has a MINI please explain what these dots do?

oh yeah... forgot!

tonight... if I can get all of them to light up. Most come on with ignition 2, but I'm sure I can break something to make the others light up

Forget about the photo, just please indicate what they mean.

That would be appreciated.

Just tried to do a photo and label it but the battery died, so I'll explain it the hard way.

There's round symbols on the speedo that light up, showing the following:
  • Battery not being charged (the red battery sign)
  • Engine oil pressure (oil can sign)
  • Handbrake warning light ( (!) sign )
  • Tyre pressure indicator
  • ABS warning
  • Traction control warning
  • seat belt warning
  • Airbag warning
  • Engine/boot not shut properly warning
  • Engine warning (lights when exhaust emissions goes tits up)
  • Engine management fault warning
  • Indicator flashy thing
  • Cruise control light
  • High beam headlight thing

Yes, those are technical terms

Dom,

Thanks for going to the trouble to provide all that information. I really thought the pictogram might be some exiting feature -- but KarmanS must be right, it was just marketing-speak.

So some of those symbols are on the speedo and other on the tach, right?

indeed - the tachometer has 6 circles, but only 3 pictures. Dunno what's the case with the cooper s, perhaps this has more warning lights to fill the blanks...

anyway, those on the tach are:
  • Cruise control
  • Traction control
  • Seat belts

It might be easier if I scanned in the diagram from the manual, but I'm not sure what the copyright situation is on this. There's probably a few pics floating around somewhere though, I know there's some that show it a little in the brochure, although this might be different for the states...

So, there's just one -- like with VWs - not a separate telltale for left and right?

Pictorial pictogrammal evidence soon !!!.....

I've found some photo's that I think explains graphicaly what Dom has explained literaly. I will scan them and post them here as soon as I can. But yes, it looks like it's another blown up marketing angle by BMW.

Here's the "Pictogram" speedo: (only one light for the indicators!!)

And here's the tacho. You can just make out the blanked out "pictures":

Don't know whether this helps at all.
