Offline | Just Did It - Major Stereo Upgrade Hi All, Just wanted to tell you about the upgrade I just got on my MCS stereo. I replaced the front speakers with FOCAL polyglass 165 v2's , driven by a BOSTON GT40 amp fitted in the compartment under the seat. I also put a small JBL tube sub in the boot which I can remove (it has a flying lead). I also replaced the back 6x9's with some lower cost pioneers, driven by the OEM head unit. I used cheaper speakers as the expensive ones tend to be more power thirsty, and I did not want to get another 2 channel amp. Also, no ones sits in the back much. I kept the OEM head unit as I did not want to lose the look of the dash, encorage theives, or lose my MFSW controls (I know about adapters)/ The result: SOUNDS AWESOME!! I am really happy, it sound %100 better. The punch of the new amp blows the old setup out of the water. The small sub sounds amazingly good. I got them to put a sub level control just under my dash. It is really nice to be able to tweak this. the company who did the job where excellent. You really would have no idea of the work that has been done to the car, it looks totally stock. I also got them to run my mini jack lead from the blitzsafe adapter in the back to my ipod in the front as well. I am rockin! cheers mesh PS. For sydney siders, I used a company called AUTO ACOUSTICS . |

Offline | Hi there, The blizsafe is just an adapter that uses the Disc Changer loom in the back of the car to give you two rca plugs. I just an RCA to mini jack , and a long mini jack extension lead, and had the Car Audio guys run it up to the front . It is pretty tidy , it is just a lead that hands around my cigerette lighter area. It has a bit of slack so you can fiddle with the ipod. Sounds great. My whole upgrade is invisible. The only thing you can see is the sub in the boot which can be removed (it is on a flying lead). I had them put a subwoofer volume control under the steering wheel area. I spent around $3500 for the whole thing. I rekon you have to go the whole hog , if you do the speakers, you need an amp. It sounds pretty amazing....%100 better than the stock units. I used auto acoustics in Botany. They are very good, and they now have experiance with a MCS. They said they learnt a lot. If you want to come and check my system out ....drop me a line. mesh@songzu.com cheers mesh |

Offline | MALE RCA TO MALE MINI JACK, and long FEMALE MINI JACK TO MALE MINI JACK are the two cable you need. RCA is the type of socket you see on you home cd players, mini jack is the type on the top of your ipod. You can get all of these at D-ICK SMITH . Also, just check you car has the CD changer loom. My mate in NZ ordered on only to find his car did not have the connectors. In the right hand side there are cubby holes you can unclip , you should find some connectors there, maybe taped up. good luck! mesh |

Offline | some more info... all AU spec minis [MC & MCS] have the cd-changer prep as standard! running a small cable is easy, & can usually be tucked under the trim edge on the seats etc... you'll only see a small black wire exit the cubby hole, & then run across the footwell in the back [& that's the worst it'll be!] i dunno whether mesh's guys found another solution, but i'm led to believe running new cable within the chassis is not even worth considering! .g |

Offline | I have the sub running from the amp, as well as the two front speakers. The rear are running from the head unit. Now that I have half OK rear speakers, they actually play a big part of the sounds....maybe they should be off the amp. |

Offline | To save having a long cd prep cable plus a long rca cable, you could fit a short cd prep cable, would just require a couple of wires joining behind the radio, then the blitz or soundlinx adaptor could be fitted up front |
