Lack of "Lack"ering

I love my mini, not the fastest car I have driven but for it is just about the best.

One minor niggle though, or pet hate if you will is, the fact that some parts of the interior are lacquered and some are not. Has anyone EVER contacted BMW direct (never mind the dealership monkeys) and requested an explanation for this?

First thing that springs to mind is that it is a cost saving device. However, come on...how much money does it save? Also the parts that are not lacquered seem to be those that have a higher potential for regular contact. There are issues with the Brilliant Silver Interior Trim and scratching of downtubes and the door pulls. Seems that it would cost them more money than it would save them in the long run.

I know there are posts in here about laquering the bits missed, sounds like hassle, also it doesn't seem that anyone has successfully managed the door pulls yet.

So, how can we get an official reason for their choice of what was lacquered or not. This is a powerful user group, has anyone got any ideas or answers?
