United-Kingdom MINI Armrest Destroyed. A warning

I have (had) one of these armrests for 3 weeks. It fitted perfectly in a couple of minutes and looked great. I didn't interfer with with any seat adjustment or operation. The armrest adjustment was great, you could slide the rest part back & forwards to get the best position and then lock it in position.

BUT:

I tend to drive with my arm resting on the rest. I went over a rather severe bump and the armrest shattered under my arm. Caused a minor cut to my wrist, nothing serious. The armrest (the silver part) appears to be made up similar to the construction of surf boards, foam surrounded by a hardened surface and painted. Which doesn't flex very well. A repair is out of the question, too much damage.

I will be getting another one. (already ordered) But I will be modifying my driving style.

£140 for a blow moulding & a bit of expanded polysytyrene is well OTT, plus if you can't safely drive with your arm resting on it then whats the point? if it breaks that easily it makes you wonder whether its been crash tested or not

Thinking about it 140 is (BMW Mini Prices) ridicoulous, considering the problems Hurrens has had with his. I think that is the case with most Mini products that are sold in the aftermarket.
