Just installed some JL Audio TR525s... no big difference

I just replaced the front speakers with some two way tr525 ones from JL audio. There's no difference that I can tell of from the stock speakers. I thought I'd notice a tiny bit more clarity on the high ends as now I have 4 tweeters all together in the front. I guess the good thing is that they definitely haven't made things worse! :-D

Gonna go shopping tomorrow for either a pioneer deh-p8400MP or a deh-p77mp

Merry christmas and a happy new year to fellow Mini drivers!

If it helps just bought a pioneer 77MP from these guys:

The unit arrived the next day and although I haven't fitted it (car arrives in March) it looks pretty good.

Mikethemini also has the MSFW kit for it.

I've used Focal Polyglass 165V2 in the front and I too have been disappointed by the
minor improvement they have brought. Before I did this I changed the HU and this made
a much bigger difference.

Fortunatly the speakers are V good in the MINI already and you wont hear too much difference at all with after market speakers especially after you turn the engine on. I slapped in a Pioneer DEH P9300R ran the auto eq, measured the distances between speakers and dialled them in. I've just scrapped my Kenwood amp and Kenwood 10" sub, in a Kenwood ported enclosure, for an Infinity Basslink X (BTW that unit is excellent). I now have an incredible sounding stereo. Extremely nice sound quality and cost me about £650 for the system.

I suggest you go for the Pioneer DEH P9400R (the updated version of mine) sramdeen (if it's not too late)Even if it's purely for the Auto EQ. You strap a supplied mic to the headrest where you sit and set the headunit to test mode, get out of the car and shut the door. After a minute or two it's all complete and your whole sound system is set up for you, so that all the sound levels are balanced. It sets the sub level and whether it's better for it to be in Normal or Reverse polarity mode (it's picked reverse for the two subs I've had and yes they are wired correctly!) Sets up High and Low Pass Filters and the 13 band EQ for you.

This will make your stereo sound fantastic I promise you. I have been so impressed with my unit. I originally ran it with no sub and had the BBE sound processing on (another feature). People did not believe I had no sub and said I'd hidden it under the floor or something!

This isn't from someone who knows nothing about sound either before you dismiss this. I spent 18 months at the School of Audio Engineering in London so I know a thing or two about sound!

It was acceptable in the 80's
