Offline | Well i was given i nice set of autometer gauges for christmas but they are mechanical so i can't use the gauge pods that mount on the steering colum. So i want to mount them on the A pillar, but i can't find any for our cars. I know there is the issue with the airbag, but my brother has two gauges on his GTI and there are no problems with it. So basicly, if you know of a company that makes a pod, please let me know. thanks |

Offline | try some of the jap tuning sites. i dont have any links at the moment, but i'm pretty sure you can get ones with suction cup mounts that just stick to the front wind shield. The FTO in this months Revs mag in the UK has em. 3 guages mounted on the window. looks sweet and non messy. |

Offline | I don't think a GTI has the A-pillar issue that MINIs have, they don't (at least at last check) have head airbags, so it is rather different... Last thing a company needs is to get sued because their gauge pod smacked someone in the head in an accident. KJ's suggestion seems very good though, or you could get the gauge bracket from MINI that goes below the toggle switches. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | Well i don't think the gauges mounted on the windsheild would look very clean, so i'd have to throw that idea out. I think i might end up buying a pod for another car and modifying it to fit onto our cars. Ohh and the VW golf, jetta, and gti all have the head airbags as you put it. The pod that my brother has is molded into the a pillar, its all one peice, so there won't be any parts flying off if the airbag ever goes off. What we need if for somebody to take a pic of a mini where the airbag went off so we can see how its designed on the nside so that we can make a better decision as to weather or not this setup will work for us. Look for the pic! i'm going to call autometer and see whats up. |

Offline | the window mounted guages are very clean looking infact. With clear suction pads. They can be mounted very closely to the a pillar. The advantage is of course that you can move em from car to car a lot easier that pillar mounted ones. Also stryders comments about the air bag safety are very valid. |

Offline | I undertsand that the airbag issue is of concern. Thats why i posted that in my first post, but i also said that the VW guys have made 1 peice A-pillars with gauges in them and they are perfectly safe when the airbag goes off. Do you have a link with a pic of the gauge pod that has suctioncups on it? |

Offline | You probably have thought about this, but in case not ... the Mnii's A-pillars, being further forward than most small cars, are often in the way of a good line of sight through left-hand corners. Mount some gauges there and the problem is going to get a lot worse. - Mark |

Offline | If you look at the edge of the A-pillar it is wide enough that if a gauge were to be mounted right on the edge, it would not block your sight. Now if it were on the side then yes, i can see how it would not be very good. I might take the gauges that i have back, and just but the promini gauge setup. |
