Offline | right to get started, happy new year to every 1. just a few quick questions to all you boot installers that have gone for the home made option... Q1). How do you decide on how big to make the sub enclosure?? i know you have to work with how many litres of air are enclosed but.... Q2). then how do you work that in to measurable sizes (mm/Cm etc)?? (i.e. 1000W sub requires about 27.4Ltrs of air unported, but if i was to design a box how will i be able to work out how many litres it would hold and would i have to include the magnet and cone on the sub in to the equation??) Q3). is there any 1 who has made 1 that is flush fitting to the boot lock?? if so whats the dimenions of your box, the size of speaker and power rating?? ive tried once to make 1 but it didnt produce how it use 2. so i had to go back to the original box. if any 1 out there is a designing whizz kid i basically have a 12" 1000W sub (SPLX) and would like to mount the amp in to the box so it can be placed under a perspex board also on the opposite side a power cap mounted in the same way as the amp. if any 1 has got some spare time and could work out the dimensions to get this sub in a proper sized box and need dimensions of the amp and so forth please contact me. below is a working design that looked good that i once had but sounded absolute pants.(in the rear of me motor) and a design that i would like (drawing) thanx in advance for any help!! Offline | Hi, Q1: The size of the box depends on the parameters of the sub. And on what kind of box you want to make (closed, ported, etc.). Programs like WinISD give you an indication. But most of the times the manufactures of the sub gives direction too. Max RMS has nothing to do with enclosure size. Q2: On the site http://www.12vhifi.nl/ and http://www.12vhifi.nl/subkisten.html you can find all kind of info about carhifi and enclosure sizes. But it's in Dutch... The volume in liters (= dm3) is inside box volume -/- sub volume (inside the box). Also consider thickness of the materials you use (so don't use outside dimensions) I guess there are sites like this one in English as well. Just google it. bye, Eric |

Offline | www.talkaudio.co.uk - The worlds greatest car audio website. The box volume is dependant on the sub you use and what sort of sound you want (quick and punchy or low and loud) Look on the manufactuers website or the manual to see what size box suits the sub you are using. 2002 Porsche Boxster |

Offline | Those custom boxes are way too small. I've got an Auto Acoustics box and it's 0.5cl. My sub is very quick and punchy, but doesn;t drop very low. You'll need at least 0.75 to get a 10" sub working properly, if you want it low and loud, you'd be better off with a ported box. You'll need to get someone to design you a box if you don't know how.
