Mounting a Sirius Antenna with a Sunroof

I just received my MINI last week and have a Kenwood Sirius satellite system I would like to install. However, the magnetized antenna I have will not attach to the roof. I am guessing this has something to do with my sunroof.

Would it be possible to mount the antenna on the bottom of the cargo area cover? Or should I just Velcro the antenna to the roof? Has anyone had any success with this, or any other, method to mount the antenna?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Mine is mounted just forward of the sunroof.
Wiring is concealed under the wind shield molding.
It's black so it blends nicely.

DIY Sirius Antenna

Mine is installed centered on top of the dash, at the very front edge of the windscreen.

2002 JCW MINI Cooper S

Polk MOMO 6.5" Front Speaker

Polk MOMO 6x9" Rear Speakers

MTX Thunder 404 4x100 Watt Amplifier

Kenwood Here2Anywhere Sirius Satellite Radio

Rockford-Fosgate Omnifi DMP1 MP3 Hard Disk Changer

Blitzsafe DMX v.1 Auxiliary Input Adapter

PIE MPSS-2 2-Channel Source Switcher

The DMX unit plugs into the CD Changer input, the MPSS-2 plugs into the DMX, and there is a toggle switch in the open center switch console position that switches between the Sirius Satellite input and the Omnifi mp3 input. The Omnifi hard disk source unit sits in the glove box and the Sirius antenna is mounted on the center of the dash in front of the UV sensor. I wanted to go the factory route on the Sirius but the MINI dealerships were all so unhelpful that I finally gave up. I'm glad I did, as now my problem is way too many choices! I was stunned at the low quality of the factory speakers.

Since I am already using the AUX input for my iPod, I can purchase a BlitzSafe adaptor to access the CD input directly? Also, are you using the included cradle to mount your Here2Anywhere unit? Or are you mounting it to the bottom of your MP3 player?

Thanks much!

Yes, that is how the Blitzsafe input works. I hard mounted the Here2Anywhere unit in it's cradle under the mp3 changer. You need to do this because the receiver unit is not meant to connect directly to the antenna or the RCA outputs, it needs the cradle to do this. Good luck.

Seems like a great idea, answers my question of, "How ugly will the antenna look mounted off-center on the roof?" Not to mention, no hoodlums can steel it that way.

Do you have any problems with the reception with the antenna in that location? Also, how did you mount the antenna? Some sort of adhesive backing?

Thanks

Chris,
Reception is great, no problems with the dash mount antenna. It is mounted with double sided tape, so you can remove it to remove the dash.
Best of luck,
Pete
