No sound from stereo!

Has anyone else experienced the single CD player failing, where the CD unit works OK but you get no volume from the speakers? This happened to me Wednesday this week. I got in and started the car, and the speakers made a little pop noise, and then nothing. I could tune the radio, and operate CDs, but couldn't get anything from the speakers. It was like that all day (tried it a number of times). Thursday, the problem went away after the car warmed up (no sound on my first drive, but after a quick stop, it was OK). I washed the car on Tuesday night, and I wonder if I got water into the electrics somewhere that shorted out the speakers? Anyone been here before? I want to take it in to the dealer, but I'm afraid that they won't do anything unless the speakers are out when I give it to them.

Jeff,

Remember that the customer is always right!

March in to your Mini dealer and let rip at the smallest looking salesman or service staff. Demand that they fully investigate the problem, replace the head unit and possibly compensate you for loss of driving pleasure or something like that. If they refuse, set up a protest outside the dealership to make the public aware of the way they treated you so badly and hand out leaflets to passers-by.

This line of attack worked for a colleague of mine at a Toyota dealership - after half an hour they offered him pretty much anything he wanted!

Alternatively, go and buy an after-market head unit. I replaced the standard wave thing with a Sony CD player. Sounded a million times better than the original.

Good luck!
