LED next to the clock ?

After having my car for nearly 4 weeks, I just noticed today an LED infront of the clock, I'm guessing it may be an IR led? Anyone know what it is, really curious now.

Cheers,

Rowdy

Could it be a photo-diode for an auto dimming rear view mirror?

The diode for the dimming rear view mirror is actually built into the bottom of the mirror in the centre, in place of the standard "lever" for dipping the mirror.

There is another diode though, that senses outside light intensity, but I think that's built into the box in front of the clock that you also get with the dimming mirror (for the rain-sensitive wipers). It could be somewhere else though! Not 100% sure

That's the "button" on the dash.

I cant picture in my mind exactly where you mean.

As mentioned above the only things I can think of would be:

The rain sensor (which is in a plastic "box" on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror). Doesn't sound like that from your discription.

The daylight sensor on the reverse (facing out) of the rear view mirror itself.

The IR sensor for the climate control (little purple thing on the dash top in the middle towards the screen).

I cant really think of anything else it could be.

Maybe it's a little camera which is transmitting live pictures of you driving your car to other planets on the solar system

The button on the dash (if you mean the circular one right in the middle at the front) is for the Climate Control I believe, I haven't got it anyway!

I do have climate control, but that's on the dash. Here's a piccy of the thing, bit blurred but at least you can see it.

Could it be a light sensitive diode rather than an LED to vary the light intensity of the clock display?

Definitely not an alarm sensor. The alarm sensor is located on the headlining underneath the rear aerial of the car.

Rowdyates, did you buy your car new? If not, it must be an an aftermarket device installed by the previous owner.

Yup, bought new, now 4 weeks old. I'm going to the dealer next week to have my seat looked at as it has a small cut in the leather, I'll ask while I'm there if they know what it is, really bugging me now!

Just done a better photo, you can see it better now.

It's another pass here, maybe one of our dealer/factory members will be able to shed some light.

Any chance of a clearer picture?
