Would it not be dangerous to have the dash made of a real alloy as opposed to plastic. Whilst it may look the part I wouldn't fancy my chances in an accident, especially if I were the passenger. There would be a good change of you getting a face full of metal when the airbag goes off.

Not to mention the obvious that it would be freezing cold in the winter and boiling hot in the summer.

BTW, I think that "wood" interior isn't even an option anymore.

One less thing to think about.

Elimination of the "faux" wood trim option would make me happier - I don't want anything that tacky to be a MINI-sanctioned item.

But what makes you think the wood option is no more? It's still on the MINIUSA website, isn't it?

I'm tempted by the "S" but the interior finish looks awful - in contrast to that of my current MINI.

Any one know the answer to this then? I don't want to have to hack the dashboard apart and fit some aftermarket thing. I'd just prefer the "normal" MINI interior.

I doubt the silver trim will be an option on the S, as having it different allows MINI to have a distinct interior for both the standard Cooper and the Cooper S.

But perhaps you'll find someone who owns a standard Cooper and would like to do a swap.

The aluminium trim looks a lot better in this photo:
Panther Black/Panther Black interior and H/K speaker

Ordered my "S" August '01. Arrived July '02. EB with white roof, wheels and stripes, Chili pack, DSC and climate control. Hate those 17" runflats though.

Can now be seen all over the West Midlands, as a blue blur passing everything at speed

faux brushed aluminum

I never did like the look of the faux brushed aluminum either. It looks really bright in all the photos except the one Viscount Charles posted in this thread. In person, it looks bad. It's not as bright but it looks like it's been stated here: smudged fingerprints. And I noticed that this pattern varied from car to car at the auto show - on some Ses it was not as apparent as others. Did anyone else notice this?

That's the first picture I've ever noticed that the brushed alloy effect is only on some of the dash. The uprights in the centre stack, the guage surrounds and the door pulls are still only in the silver paint, with patina paint on everything else. That's kinda weird.

Oh well, it didn't stand out at the autoshows like that. Funny light in the picture I guess. I'm sure I'll live, if the rest of the car is as fantastic as they say it is.

LMB, I think you're funning wit me. But in case some other reader doesn't get the joke: Airbags do not explode the dashboard apart when they deploy, they exit the dash above, below a segment, or a weakened (scored) section in the center part of a dash pad.

see adamlewin gallery, for hi-res version of this photo, I can't get it to fit in this post.

At any rate, I like REAL WOOD and REAL BRUSHED ALUM dash treatments and will hope to find someone who will do dash veneers for a MINI when I get my car.

Aluminum, real wood, fake wood, silver plastic and smudged alloy plastic will each look best to different people. MINI people are going to be more individualistic than the average car buyer and I believe this will make the car more fun to be around. I also believe that having a car that can be modified easily and having an aftermarket willing to supply us with alternatives will keep us excited about our MINIs longer and more intensely than other makes. This has been true in my experiences with Miatas. Myself...removal of these plastic pieces and a bright yellow paint applied to them will be my choice. I'll love it but I won't mind if you don't. I love to attend a Miata meet and see how Miata people have fun with their cars and how they express themselves in what they add to their cars. I hope owning a MINI will give the same pleasure.
ps.....I'll still keep a Miata.

The whole world is buzzing about the MINI!

Nope. It's in the new brochure I got, but not on MINIUSA.COM anymore.
