Question TomTom Go

I've been thinking of buying a satnav system ever since I got terrible lost in Liegé (Belgium) last weekend. I could go for the HU option but I really don't want to mess up the look of the centre console. A motorised folding screen could be a solution but I'm having trouble finding one that fits the colour-scheme (brushed alu/black) of the console. Besides, it might block the speedometer. Any suggestions? Will the radio/CD still work with the screen folded ie the satnav not in use?

Another way to go is the PDA-route. Since I don't want any loose cables I was really pleased to learn that TomTom has introduced a new system called TomTom Go. It's an all-in-one package: GPS-receiver, LCD-screen and maps (stored on SD-card). It is operational for 5 hrs on a lithium battery and can also be plugged into the cigarette-lighter for longer use. The system will be available at the end of spring and will cost about € 799,- (VAT incl). You can check www.tomtom.com for more information.

What would be the best place to mount this system (in a lefthand driven car)?

Motor on,

Chris

hurdit did it in this thread .

The pic shows theres no real problem with covering up the speedo. Also most aftermarket diplays of this sort will mount at the same height so this should be a reference for height only (covering of speedo) since you said your concerned with the color scheme. Do a search on the web for "indash video displays" or something of the sort, since other companies will have different colors.

Hope this helps, it took me forever to find that link!
good luck!

Patrick,

Thanks for the info. Your system looks great. I'm really interested in some more photo's (system operational, screen folded in etc). Does your radio/CD work when the screen is folded in? Does the Pioneer (what article code?) have a detachable front (or any other anti-theft devices)? Can you still use the MFSW buttons for radio/CD control or did you have get a separate remote control?

Motor on,

Chris

Not mine, its Hurdit's, so if you have other questions ask him...

As for the CD player working when the sceen is closed I can tell you that yes it will work on most (if not every) model and manufacturer.

I found one by Pioneer on the web (Pioneer AVIC-N1) which does everything you asked and plays DVD's (you have to either be parked, or bypass this safety function) problem is it's $1,999 american.

Navigation is through GPS and you will have to find a similar model for the maps you want on discs.
XM compatible, CD/DVD compatible, plays MP3's....

This thing is really top notch with tons of add on capibilities.
