I am trying to get as much back ground as possible on the Nakamichi CD400, I had it in my car for a short time last night to listen to it (wasnt mine) and i think it sounds alot better than my current unit an Alpine CDA9812RB.

Should I change or Not?

Nakamichi have a reputation for good sound, I have the same headunit as you do at the moment, and am quite satisfied by the sound and the appearance. I personally would spend my money elsewhere.

Have you changed stock speakers ? and also had a play with some settings on the HU ?

I have the Alpine 9815rb unit in my car and am really pleased. You have seriously got to have a major play around with thes settings though to get the most out of them. At first i was a little dissapointed however after spending a bit of time playing i love it to bits.

Do either of you have the Harmon Kardon upgrade? My local stereo shop says that there is no way to get a new head unit with the HK. If this is untrue, please let me know how you got around it. Thanks!

Well I had the HK system from the factory but had it replaced with the following:

Diamond Audio HEX Components
Genesis 5 Channel Amp
and 2 x DLS 10inch Magnesium Subs

I am more into Aduio File that all out Booom Booom, if you know what i mean?
