Offline | H/K Retrofit Let's put aside the great debate over the value of the H/K system for a minute. Considering that the H/K option is delayed until the fall in the U.S. would one be able to retrofit the H/K system to the standard system when it becomes available? Thoughts or comments? Thanks! Offline | H/K refit I have the same problem with the H/K and reto fitting. Here are some problems I have thought of in doing this. First of all any thing can be refitted it is just a matter of how much MONEY you have. The H/K is made up of the following parts. Boost head unit. H/K amp in the boot behind the RHS trim panel 2 new 6X9 speakers in the back new 5.25 woofer in the lower front door trims new mid and teeters mounted up in the top of the front doors new speaker grilles for the 5.25 woofer new grille and mounting for the mids and tweeters in the top of the door new wiring harness As you can see there is a bit of new stuff to be added. The biggest problem is the wiring harness they are different to the STD boost radio setup. The simple part of the job is the mounting of all the new hardware. In the back remove the old 6x9 and add the new ones. Up in the front doors it might not be as easy. The 5.25 woofer should just mount straight in. The STD system there is only one speaker in the top door mounting location. With the H/K there is two, so the mounting points and system might be quite difference. Also you have the speaker grills need to be changed. Maybe even new door trims are needed. Now that’s the simple part, the wiriness harness is the hard part. Here is a quick overview off the wiring I think is need for the h/k set up. The inputs to H/K amp 4-speaker o/p from the boost head unit Ground 12 volt remote turn on some from of control bus from the head unit (remember there is a DSP in the amp) the speed control wire Also the 8 speakers in the car need to be wired back to the 10 channels of the amp. The price and part number for the h/k system is 65130029635 price 750 pounds (don’t think this includes the fitting cost) I see in another thread there is talk of it getting delayed again. Yes even later the sept build cars. ![]() |

Offline | Hi Snoopy, and thanks. I'll check with our dealer for instructions. I'm not sure the retrofit kit is available in the states, so I'm not too optomistic. All US units already come with the "boost" head unit which is required for the H/K, so that is a step in the right direction. I found this stuff on ebay, but its been horror show getting it. The guy advertised it as an "upgrade package", when it was just the amp, speakers and door speaker grilles and door trims from a wrecked Mini. I told him I also needed all the wiring looms and the connectors or he wasnt getting paid (false item description). Finally he put it all (I hope) together, I paid him $350 plus shipping and it just arrived. I cant recommend him, but here are a few ideas: 1. Send a PM to Minty. He works in a UK MINI dealer and can supply you the factory upgrade kit if/when available. 2. Place an ad on the marketplace board at mini2.com and minicooperonline.com looking to buy the H/K items from a wrecked Mini. You will need: LOL.... I was about to post a link to the description of all the stuff you'll need, when I realized... I was going to link to YOUR post above. Anyway, as I get into this (slowly) I'll post my progress. As I understand it, the wiring changes may be a bit simpler than you have described. Keeping in mind that the Mini is a mass-produced car and that car-to-car variations need to be done simply on the assembly line... It seems there are four wiring looms specific to the H/K: left door right door rear speakers Boost head unit to H/K amp Also, there is a one T connector that goes inline between the boost head unit and the main factory harness, and I understand there is one more specific T connector. That should do it, and once the seats, carpet and door panel are off to swap looms out, it should be plug and play... I hope. |
